The apartment with no elevator
on February 5, 2013 at 12:00 amLook who’s back! Alice, Jack and Wendy’s last appearance was Sept. 17, 2011.We promise, there won’t be such a long break between appearances at this time. In other words, apparently 2012 went by at an amazing speed, because it feels like yesterday that we were back in chapter 6.

Karen, Karen? The one with the shoes? I must go back, I don’t recall who this is exactly. I must say that an apartment with no elevator reminds me of Rapunzel, in an inaccessible tower; rather a modernization of the concept.
What a cute cat, looks like a Scottish fold with long fur. Poor hungry thing, hope they find some kibbles for it.
Karen was the wheelchair girl in chapter one that was stabbed to death. We apologize, it is a bit far back… time here and time in Oz work at different speeds.
Yay, Alice and Wendy and Jack are back! And there’s a cat too. It’s so adorable. :3
meooow
Fluff cat reminds me of marshmallow cat from Girly.
I’m betting that wheelchair was pimped out with rockets.
Maybe I’m dense, but I don’t see Alice anywhere in todays’ comic. She’s not the cat, is she?
Alice is the female pictured with the cat.
Alice is the blond with the bob-cut (you probably mistook her for either Wendy the other modern Calliope member) or past Alice who would be dead by this time in story
So excited to hear about this storyline! I am very distraught about the idea of this kitty’s owner being dead though. It’s so cute!
mow! kitty reminds me of my cat, he mows too. And it seems like Karen was not as handicapped as she appeared.
I’m suddenly getting images of Nessarose walking in Wicked
Ahhhh! That makes so much sense! (So glad I read Wicked now!) That must be why that girl took her shoes afterwards……
You think so?
BUT, BUT! EMMA, AND NOSE! SO MANY HANGERS!
Kitty
I wonder what Alice is looking at.
It’s great to finally see these characters again (Wendy too, once there’s room for her), though again it’s a surprise none of us thought would be so soon.
You like to have a bit more liberty with drawing cats in a VERY stylized way, don’t you Isa?
What suspicions? XD
So I guess the ruby slippers DID work for Karen’s wooden feet then.
They’re NOT Ruby Slippers (movie items = copyright), they were the Red Shoes from an entirely DIFFERENT story: where once you put them on you can’t stop dancing!
Ugh, I blame teh Oz for throwing me off completely
Even though I do know of some cats that greet people at the door, that cat gives me a strange vibe. It reminds me of a dog that doesn’t know it’s a dog or a cat that thinks it’s a dog. lol Even though I know it’s a cat.
Alice always had an affinity for cats. This one seems very talkative. My feline is a bit rusty…anyone want to translate?
Feed me! Feed me! My human hasn’t been home and my bowl is empty!
Yay Jack! Yay Alice! Kitty!!
Can anyone else imagine Jack and Alice doing a kickass Mulder and Scully routine?
No elevator confirms suspicion of what actually? That Karen was poor? That her apartment is stuck in the past?
I think it confirms that she was haunted by that ghost thing? Since she was paraplegic.
That she wasn’t as confined by her wheelchair as you would usually expect?
Dancing magical shoes help with that.
While the paraplegia keeps her from dancing her feet to flinders? Most peculiar, most peculiar indeed. Or the wood feet, keep the shoes in check? Still peculiar I say. Intriguing even!
Do we actually know she was a paraplegic? I mean she had wooden legs so it could literally be any number of disabilities. Not that it changes anything in the comic. lol
“Iam hungry, feed me feed me, give me rubs, pet me, feed me, where is the lady, where is the lady, who are you, will you feed me?”
Maybe Alice can talk or understand cats? maybe a kind neighbour used to help Karen upstaris? maybe that cat is part scottish fold? (I mean, the ears) Plenty of answers yet to come!!
I hope the cat isn’t a part of the ghost that was eating Karen. That’d be sad.
You’re not alone there Jack.
An Alice with a soft spot for cats, perhaps? Or maybe they make her nervous? Entertaining possibilities either way.
Well didn’t the Original Alice in the story have a white cat?
She had Dinah in the first book, and then the second book begins by blaming one of Dinah’s kittens. The black one, in particular, while posing the white kitten as a darling angel.
… I think I know too much about Alice…
Magical red shoes that make you dance can get you EVERYWHERE.
Also, I suspect evil kitty. It has four vampire teeth and teeny ears. Therefore, it is evil. My logic is impeccable.
It has to be an evil kitty, I don’t see how anyone can see that thing as cute. Beady eyes, tiny ears and vampire fangs give me reason to at least suspect that the shoes were only a ruse; quite obviously the cat is the reason that Karen had wooden feet, she forgot to feed it one night only to wake up and find that it had eaten her feet. I suspect that is also why Wendy is not pictured in today’s comic. Quite obviously she was an advance scout and ran afoul of feline trouble. This also explains the stubby legs and swollen belly of the cat, and can be the only reason it hasn’t bitten Alice’s hand off. It’s quite full from gorging on Wendy-flesh. Ghost-Emma has competition…
That moment you realize you have to stop throwing plot twists at your readers, who have decided to assume all characters are evil until proven otherwise as a consequence of plot-tease.
But yeah, that cat is probably evil. All cats are. At least a little.
Yes, well the plot twists definitely have me on edge, but I do have to say that I assume the evilness of cats to be an inherent thing. I state this as fact, because I”m quite certain that if I die in my sleep, my three cats will gnaw my body to bones before anyone discovers I’m dead.
Also, I love the blank, dead eyes in that cat demanding souls. Not to mention the very irritated Alice. You are able to put way too much expression into quick sketches, I love it.
First thought: cat = evil Chesire Cat
Lol, hope that’s not true! But with Namesake you can usually take the worst senario and then watch in horror as it plays out
WAIT I GOT IT
The cat can fly; it carried Karen up the steps every morning.
MYSTERY SOLVED
I suspect that Alice is not fond of cats.
Cats, mine anyways…from experience….tend to see more than we do. It’s like they have a 7th sense or something.
That is a ridiculously cute cat. These are ridiculously funny comments. ^
I’m glad these characters are back in action but I sure hope to see more of Fish
I think Alice is just a little weirded out. Who’s been taking care of the cat? A pet cat, locked in an apartment on an upper floor, doesn’t stay that fat for long. Its owner is dead, so is someone there?
In the real world, Karen was only dead for about a day or two. Cat’s fine, just hungry.
Karen’s been dead about 18 hours, so the cat’s only been on its own for about 24-30 hours. Because of her mobility issues, she keeps a perpetual feeder and water setup for the cat, so it still has plenty of food and water.
Now the litter box … Alice made Jack clean that!
Aw… Poor kitty. The way it came running for the door, it must be STARVING. How long has it been since Karen died before somebody FINALLY came to her apartment? *lol* The least the gang can do is take the poor thing in and raise it themselves.
Kitty is so cuuuuuute!
