I hate to be the one to point it out but you missed the i in pastoria in the frame where it says he dies. Just thought i’d let you know. Wonderful job and great artwork, and i’m not just saying that because i feel bad to be the one to point out a minor typo.
Actually, in expression and dress I was wondering who he was reminding me of, and I finally figured it out; he looks rather like Klaus Von Wulfenbach, though not QUITE so strong a face (but that may just be your drawing style).
Oh the Wizard looks a good deal older and not nearly so likely to smile. There’s just a similarity. It probably is the nose. And I can see where Ryk would get Baron Wulfenbach as well.
Ohhh, excellent combination of backgrounds to try to make sense of the UTTER CONTRADICTIONS that Baum saddled us with. Though it does make it rather a dark comedy of errors at that point (and points up that the average people of Oz aren’t very bright, alas; if they only had a BRAIN!)
I have to presume that in the REAL Oz (not the made-for-children version that Baum showed us), the Wizard had to go through a lot more before he was accepted by Ozma.
I love the depth you are going into changing things in OZ but giving that twinge of what was known from the actual stories so that they can both feel canon
This other world like all the other worlds that the fairy or fe created all have their own means of physical operation. Not quite like our own. And we can still be killed in Oz as was related. I can’t remember which one it was. It concerned the use of the mind wiping water. Maybe it was the Nome king.

No worries! It’s important to correct typos. Thanks for your help! It should be corrected now.
Is it just me. or does the Wizard look an aweful lot like Jack?
I guess they both have similar noses? The Wizard has an awful lot of cheek bones though
But no relation between the characters

Oh man, he does look like a Wulfenbach! The people with goggles in the next panel don’t hurt that impression either…

Well, it helps that we mostly quote the first 5 books and original plays. Stuff is easier to untangle.
Was “everyone’s immortal” already in place by Book 5? I’d thought it hadn’t QUITE hit then, but mayhap I’m just misremembering.
Heh, I love the symbolism in Pastoria’s name.
Because there’s “Pastor” in it?
No, because it’s a play on “Pastoral”, which is generally taken to describe an idyllic, usually natural scenic, existence.
Ooooh.
I’m a Francophone, so that was a bit lost on me. But thanks for tellign me! I can see why Baum would have picked the name.
A bit late reply, but actually, I was thinking of pastor (as in both a shepherd and the preacher). Makes sense for a caretaker.
wow. oz seems like a real douche…
He really was a douche in the books. When I read them, even was surprised.

Ozma reminds me of Hecate – at least, the Hecate in the Alchemist book series. Young in the morning, middle-aged at noon, and a crone at night.
