Dude, that is EMMA’S sword!!! You best give it back to her!! And undo the damage you did!!!
Although I do like how portable it’s become…
Starting to wonder… Is it really? I mean, she got the sword from a weird space where spirits are trapped while she was in Oz. the only reason she got it was because the ghost made her take it out to free the spirits. Emma only did it to save her friends. That sword was put there to trap the spirit which is evil. So was the sword meant for her at all? I want to know who put the sword there in the first place. Was it ozma? A Writer? Calliope or even the Rippers? The sword was pulled by Emma, but warricks presence activated it once. Is Warrick (or his heart) tied to Emma somehow or the sword? And in that case, does that mean Emma or the sword is somehow tied with Ozma?
And how do the Rippers and Calliope tie in with her? They seem in some ways to be working to some of the same ends. For instance, both targeting Karen.
That’s the funny thing with the rippers. How “bad” are they? We only truly know that they are Calliope’s antagonist. But what proof do we have that Calliope is any better? Vanessa killed Karen, but didn’t Jack say he was sent to do the same thing if Karen was possessed? Are they enemies or merely two groups trying to beat each other to the same prize? And is Calliope really “the good guys?” We assume so because we only experience them in depth, but I’m not so sure. Why do the Rippers give up their name? We know nothing about them.
And who is Emma in all this. The ghost knew her when it left Karen. It recognized her and wanted her to run rather than be recognized by “them.” I was thinking it meant the rippers, but maybe it was Calliope. Why would they recognize her on sight if they (either calliope or rippers, since neither should know her. we only know of One and Nose seeming to have a solid idea of who Emma is, and neither was there at the library) never met her?
Whew! Sorry about that long response to the comment about Emma’s sword! I meant to only reply that it really isn’t hers, but then all of these ideas attacked me! Which is proof of the absolute brilliance of this story! I love Meg and Isa for sucking me into this world:)
If that’s true, then I wander what Emma’s true powers are.
Have they already been referred to officially as “The Rippers”?
We haven’t met 37 yet, have we…?
Aww snap! A container for Emma’s sword?! AND RETRACTABLE! Wicked…
….well shit. There goes my hope for her ability to defend herself easily against these guys >_>;
Maybe she could vomit scrolls in their faces? Never underestimate a good paper cut to the eye.
“What are you gonna do? Bleed on me?”
Based on the artwork yesterday, I suspect the scrolls were the “binding” Nose tried to put on Emma’s powers and memory. He said it is incomplete and it might be unraveling. Good thing to get it out in that case.
“How do you want to die, stapler or paper cut? That’s a /slow/ death.”
Yet another way to get a sword on an airplane. I am not entirely sure this sword is a good thing, remember where it came from.
Given that Nose was wearing a similar mask in Emma’s mind, I wonder if that’s how they become Nameless, with their names and memories sealed away. I do think that Nose thinks he’s doing the right thing, so he’ll be a properly complicated villain. He did seem to think that Emma would be her best self with what he was doing.
Nose, give Emma her sword back! It may not be a “good” sword per say, but it’s still hers. >:( Why is it so important for them to stop Calliope from finding her? Is it really so bad? :/ I hope when Emma get her memory back she kicks all their asses into next year!
I am not certain Calliope is a good organization either.
We got a good glimpse of that when Alice joined Calliope. Carrol was a little two nervous about it in my opinion. It may have changed though so who knows?
I’m getting the feeling that these mysterious numbered people have known about Emma being a Namesake from before she went to Oz.
Honestly there are a few questions that haven’t been addressed yet.
Is being a Namesake a family trait?
What happened to Emma and Elaine’s mother? Just where is their father?
Just what is the ghost up to, and is Emma in danger of it even moreso now that she has no sword/memories?
How does Calliope get funding? (Tickets to fly Wendi and Alice overnight from Britain to Canada aren’t cheap but they didn’t bat an eye regarding that..)
I’m torn between wanting to see more Fred and Elaine or seeing what the Oz crew are up to. Just can’t take the suspense!
For the funding, Wendy brought some of the pirate treasure from Never-Never Land, Jack acquired a goose that lays golden eggs, and there’s a whole host of unlimited wealth devices in folk tales.
…And that’s why the economy’s in the crapper.
I’m still dying to know more about Emma’s nosebleeds/mysterious aliment/visits to the doctor as a child/meeting Nose (what was wrong with him?!)/the RED DOOR *dun dun DUN*
Nose is too skinny. He should eat more!
I totally hope she can summon that sword later.
I’m starting to think this might be a case where the *bad* guys turn out to be the *good* guys in the end. Just maybe.
I’m with you. I rambled about that a bit further up the comments!
Just noticed the little shoulder buttons on Nose’s sweater. Snazzy.
Snazzier still: sword in a vial?
WARNING: Make sure that the package remains hermetically sealed. Exposure to air due to damaged packaging may cause the sword to materialize prematurely. Namesake Inc. assumes no liability for any damages or loss of any kind that might arise from the improper handling or use of the device.
Do not taunt Happy Fun Sword.
I’m really worried for Emma. She’s got both the Nameless and Calliope after her, not forgetting the ghost and perhaps Renge and the poppies if she returns to Oz anytime. She’s seperated from Elaine and Ben and her Oz friends, she has no sword and no memory, her powers are half locked away, and worst of all, she’s in the hands of the wicked Isameg.
Noooo, not her sword! That’s it, someone needs to kick his ass, don’t care who but someone needs to now. ><
37? We are going to meet another ripper?! exciting!! Who will be?
bad guys have the Maguffin? Check!
Bad guy lackey sympathetic to the hero? Check!
Seems less like sympathy on 55′s part and more desire for ownership.
So is One Lewis Carroll?
If One is Dodgson, then the Prologue and Intermissions will be filling in the backstory behind how he came to found the Rippers. Which would make Alice the logical founder for Calliope in an effort to fend off whatever he’s trying to do.
Calliope already existed by Alice Liddel’s time.
If it were Lewis Carroll, he’d be about 180 by now, assuming no magical interference.
Also, I’m trying to decide if you put that picture up when we guess close to the real plot and you can’t tell us, or if you put it up when we’re way off base and you’re just laughing at us.
One is, of course, Patrick MacGoohan! ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zalndXdxriI )
hmm… (looks for Carroll in the archives)
Kind of hard to tell. I thought I might be able to recognize him by his nose, but I couldn’t seem to find Carroll with his face to the side like that. In some panels, it looked like his nose was pointed downward kind of like that, but in others it didn’t, or at least not to that extent.
I dug back into some of the Intermissions. One’s nose seems to most closely resemble Alice’s sister’s nose. Cross dressing is one of the oldest character disguises in history and she would have the resentment for Calliope necessary to form the Rippers.
Wish I had me one of them magic swords.
If anyone remembers prologue cover 3, the portrait of the original Alice in front of the looking glass, she too had a sword. Not the same though. Do the first namesakes all get swords as they must fight for the lineage they are to leave behind and fight others who tell them who they should or should not be?
And by lineage, I don’t mean her family. Not all traits are inherited genetically
Ahhh, noooo. I caught up!!
