Why NOT touch her? o_O Isn’t Emma’s touch supposed to burn the poppies thanks to the protection spell? Wouldn’t she touching Anlise actually be desirable then? They shouldn’t wait until the plant takes over her mind and the witch goes all crazy on them again…
I don’t see how that could happen. In the page from the 7th of July, Emma was not merely touching, but tackling Anlise, and got rid of the poppies in her head by grabbing onto the vines. Anlise herself remained unhurt, except for the damage already done by the plant. I don’t understand why the current outcome would be different.
Since that Anlise is all screwed up now, and that poppies are still growing, Warrick is assuming what Emma did earlier might have not killed the poppies completely and rather is what messed her up and it may not be a good idea to try again at the moment. Maybe later when they have time to focus on saving her brain.
That’s stupid (not mincing words). The last time the poppies grew you ended up with super-powered psycho Annlise and it took Hercilia and Emma in a surprise attack to take her down. Waiting around while the Poppies are regrowing is idiotic. They need to get that taken care of NOW. Healing Annlise FULLY should be the number-one priority right now. Having the White Witch as an ally — Priceless. Having her go One-Winged Angel on you right at the worst moment later one? Sucks. I hope SOMEONE points this out to them in the next comic (preferably Emma); I really don’t want them suddenly carrying the idiot ball.
But what if the poppies are too intertwined with her brain? Since those roots didn’t leave last time, maybe they’re merged with her or something, and trying again may remove some things with them that shouldn’t be removed?
A legitimate fear, but Warrick has regrown “half” her brain already; he can do it again, if needed. Apparently a few scraps of poppy survived Emma’s prior onslaught and have regrown, but the problem only gets worse over time, so Ryk is right; taking them out NOW is priority one.
I am excited to see what they tell Jinjur to convince her to mobilize against Renge. ‘Oh hey, remember how the Wizard sometimes is a horrible person…well, we got a stinker’?
Now, seeing the title of the strip, I have the tragically macabre image of Poppy-Annlise pulling off her own petals, saying “She loves me… she loves me not…”
It seems Namesake has been around for almost a year and a half now. That still seems rather young for a webcomic. Still, I’m shocked that Namesake only has 43 votes this month on TopWebComics, placing it at 468th place. I’ve only recently discovered Namesake, myself. But judging by the comments alone, I’d think it MUST be more popular than that. If even FOUR fans voted consistently for Namesake – each day of the week – that would be more than 43… I understand, though, that not everyone wants to visit a vote site frequently (I could not even talk my best friend into voting for the ones he follows) and ranking is not necessarily indicative of quality, talent, or entertainment value. Heck, the comics I enjoy and follow range from rank 8 all the way down to one in which I’m the only fan that votes. And even I sometimes forget to vote some days. That said, most of my favorites do have a pretty good rank and I’ve heard the vote thing does actually help comics get more exposure. It’s how I found nearly all the ones I follow. Wait… is there even a vote button on this site?
Thanks for the complements, and welcome to the comic! Glad to have you here!
We do have a button, but I’ve never fully integrated it into the site. I’m of mixed feelings regarding TopWebComics, especially after the experiment that Shadowbinders did earlier this week showing that despite the rules there’s still a lot of bots that are at work on the site. I tend to use Project Wonderful stats more in determining readership, and I also keep track using ComicRank, which does a good job of keeping track of regular readers.
If folks want a TWC button, I definitely can finish up what I was doing to implement it.
Meg I vote every day and always wondered how the kickstarter is doing so well but twc doesn’t reflect the strip’s popularity. I guess readers would rather vote with their pocketbooks! But twc should bring in more readers.
If you go off of Comic Rank, we have roughly 3,600 regular readers that hit the site for every update – that’s the metric they track. If you take Project Wonderful into account, the number is between 6,200-6,700 page views a week. This includes one-off readers, occasional, etc.
We’ve done a fair amount of advertising with Project Wonderful, which has netted a good number of readers. We also promote heavily through Twitter, Tumblr and DeviantArt, which to me has gotten more positive feedback than Facebook or Google+. We got involved with Womanthology, and a lot of it from what I understand is word of mouth. The author of reMIND has done a wonderful series on promoting yourself, which I’ve followed as well.
If you think about it, TWC doesn’t have those comics that a lot of people consider the heights of the webcomics world: Something*Positive, Girls With Slingshots, Order of the Stick (they’ve raised nearly $650,000 in their Kickstarter thus far), XBMC, etc. TWC should bring in more readers, and we definitely want more people to read the comic, but we’re not pinning everything on it.
I have to agree with Meg that TWC is weird. But it’s true that we do get some readers from there (and the voting is super appreciated, thanks!). Making a voting button can’t hurt.
Oh yay! Jinjur’s coming back!
I’m terrified! I can’t imagine how it feels for Anlise to have things start spouting out of your cerebral cortex at random.
“She’s better than nothing!” High praise indeed.
Why NOT touch her? o_O Isn’t Emma’s touch supposed to burn the poppies thanks to the protection spell? Wouldn’t she touching Anlise actually be desirable then? They shouldn’t wait until the plant takes over her mind and the witch goes all crazy on them again…
But what if her protection spell or whatever considers Anlise a threat too, not just the poppies?
I don’t see how that could happen. In the page from the 7th of July, Emma was not merely touching, but tackling Anlise, and got rid of the poppies in her head by grabbing onto the vines. “If we stop Renge, we can find Ozma and stop your wrinkles from deepening.”
“Better than nothing.” There’s a glowing endorsement!
“Jinjur: She’s Better Than Nothing!”
What a slogan for your army!
I’ll be interested to see Emma’s reaction to the fact that Jinjur is purely motivated to assemble an army out of vanity.
Now, seeing the title of the strip, I have the tragically macabre image of Poppy-Annlise pulling off her own petals, saying “She loves me… she loves me not…”
“like”
super like
Warrick, you are such an ass.
Of course, calling someone a poppy zombie when they are RIGHT THERE is a bit less than considerate too, EMMA.
yeah, Warrick can be ass. But he doesn’t really like Jinjur anyways, so I think that’s about as much of a compliment as he muster up.
And… I think Emma was being more matter-of-fact than anything. But yeah, definately not the best thing to say in the presence of Anlise…

LOL
WIN
Tell that to the Dorothy.
