Oh Warrick’s face in the third panel! Unspoken complete rejection of what he’s hearing, don’t like that, no, no, no!
Looks like we go back to the present in the last two panels. What *is* it that Warrick doesn’t believe? There are fragments of something in the penultimate panel, but of what I can’t tell.
Yes, he’s alive! Hopefully Emma is too and Scarecrow’s gotten to his senses. I bet serious money that Ozma stepped in at last!

I have a feeling that whole flashback was a way to say that Warrick is able to protect himself and others. Not just a healers but also a shield. I think that might be the monster breaking up, maybe he’s managed to stave it off with a power even he didn’t realize he had. To protect a special person SQUEE!! I’m totally shipping him and Emma right now XD

In The Emerald City of Oz the person I believe is the Prototype Namesake for Emma* is brought by Ozma to Oz, according to her Wikipedia entry. Does anyone know whether she interacted with the present-day (non-flashback) cast of the comic?

The IsaMeg writing gods are shipbaiting mercilessly today. I love it. It’s nicer than the oh God no of a couple of pages ago.
But he’s also protecting the Scarecrow that emma is protecting. Doesn’t that count as someone special? It’s family!
When he yelled “No! Not again!” then immediately shields Emma with his body, definitely going to say it’s Emma.
…I don’t wanna start a ship war or anything, but i’m sure by “not again”, he probably meant “I don’t want this thing that ate my mom to eat another girl”. His motivation still seems to be mostly family-slash-Ozma. Emma is pretty much generally irrelevant to his life.
Irrelevant seems a bit extreme but perhaps his motivation is to safe both Emma and the Scarecrow or maybe the whole self sacrifice thing goes with the healer magic personality type deal and saving people is just a part of who he is.
I do *love* the idea of a *Wicked* Warlock whose basic self drives him to save people.

Possible, but remember a couple pages back he said that entitiy wasn’t his Uncle? Of course, his hindbrain could be reacting to the Uncle he sees rather than his intellect’s understanding that it isn’t.
Ship-baiting doesn’t mean the actual outcome has to support the ship, it’s the tease/scene that can be easily interpreted as supporting the ship. While there are other very valid ways to look at it, it also is not difficult to look at it and go Emma/Warrick — thus the shippers have been baited.

OK, so Emma’s “not a Dorothy”, and the name’s never even been close.
Mayhaps Em-ma is a close-as-you-can-get namesake for Oz-ma? Ozma came from elsewhere, and there’s some power protecting Emma…
