OK, Nose? You do anything to hurt our girl, there will be many a fangirl (and fanboy) you’ll have to deal with, no matter how suave and charming you may be, capise?
Oh, now Nose has blue eyes, like Emma’s when she is touched by magic. I agree with Diloolie, Nose is trying to help her here. Maybe the masks will allow him to hide her from the high-up baddies?
Perhaps, but with the blue eyes (like the blue spaces between the worlds) I think the mask he’s wearing and the one he’s giving her are protective, or perhaps let you see into places you normally couldn’t.
He’s fond of Emma? He’s been helpful to her? I find him ambiguous at the moment, not clearly good or evil. I am leaning toward goodish, because he could have behaved much worse to Emma than he has so far.
I wonder if this is really Nose, or Emma’s subconscious is feeding her enough information to piece this imposing masked man into the dream. It it is a dream.
Until it is known what the motives of Nose–and his boss–are, I’d say it is presumptuous to say he’s “good” or “evil”; if such terms ever have validity.
I’m with xpacetrue. This whole scenario looks pretty sinister. Especially the not giving her a choice part. The masks seem to be connected to the ghost(s), and I’m thinking they might have something to do with the Rippers.
I bet the full process is a bit more complicated than that. The general assumption is that you have to be willing, in some fashion, to join that group. Otherwise the Nameless could just invade everyone’s mental paper plane and stick masks on them.
Unless this is a particular weakness to Emma because she’s received zero training in her Namesake powers.
Ah, so Scarecrow WAS killed by Emma in a sense now. And dont tell me this’ll be like a rip-off of “As the world falls down” from the Labrynth as Nose tries to seduce his Habiti
Hmm, so maybe the “masks” look like masks because they’re out of range or something? Considering what just happened to the Scarecrow when Emma put some distance between them…
Hm. This is TOTALLY the wrong thing to focus on here, but Emma’s back in her purple shirt, same as the first time, even though in the real world she’s wearing Selva’s dress now. Just a weird detail.
I think it’s because this place doesn’t really exist? So if this is sort of a universal subconscious world then it would revert her outfit to what was in her subconscious.
Either that or Selva’s clothes can’t exist outside of Oz?
So by using that mask he can make the other mask be far from her? and he can control that space?! Well, if he is a former namesake, he must been to that place many times, right? How interesting.
I love this comic more and more as the story goes on. It tends to follow a rule I’ve always followed when it comes to characters in stories. There is no good or evil, there are only different sides to a story. I’m quite certain this is a theme that will continue with the Rippers as well with them doing some very dark things, but for a purpose that, at least to them, is needed.
I’d like to keep the labels off Nose. He’s spent his whole life living a label. I’m pretty sure right now he’d just like to be.
*This rant brought to you by cold victims hopped up on nyquil*
And look at that ScarecrowMaskface! :O
It’s possible that the benevolent masks are trying to use the ‘piece’ of Scarecrow that Emma has to try to communicate with her, because she won’t/can’t listen to them now.
There’s also the other important point to consider; “I trust notheeng~!!! D:<"
I'm not against considering that, despite a name like 'Rippers', they are not necessarily up to entirely bad things. Most of the Namesakes there might just be trying to break the cycle, particularly in stories with a bad-end. … "Ripper" could just mean they're trying to 'tear-up' the "script"…
So this might have an interesting implication. Scarecrow turned to mask when Emma stopped paying attention to him. Have we seen her focus on the other masks? Would we be able to see who they are if she did?
I kept thinking that looks like the mask from the chapter 10 cover, but it’s not quite the same. Still making me worry if it’s related to ghostly involvement, though. Nnnngh, it’s almost Thursday! Soon! *pokes refresh button forever*
And I wonder now if the Scarecrow is there because she was hanging on to him while he was dying and she pulled him in with her by accident. D: I hope he’s not trapped! I wonder if she can pull him back OUT of this place and, say, put him back in his repaired body? Since he wasn’t technically alive before… *diehard optimist forever!*
This page really makes people think! Some believe Nose is the villain, some believe he isn’t . . . some comments are affecting my own thoughts (if I had any)!
I THINK . . . that the blue eyes are mostly due to the mask, basically a cover-up and masquerade to continue hiding the true evil of this comic. “Nose” (using that term loosely) putting a similar mask on Emma is either showing the plan to recruit her to the dark side/Rippers or a transition into the awakening from the dream (such as Nose/55 actually stroking Emma’s face in real life).
OK, Nose? You do anything to hurt our girl, there will be many a fangirl (and fanboy) you’ll have to deal with, no matter how suave and charming you may be, capise?
He’ll have a mob of fangirls and possibly fanboys who’ll have him hell to pay
Still with habibati, I see!
I bet he’s actually trying to help her. Nothing of him has been malicious so far.
He only said habibti this time.
It was originally habibati, but I forgot to change it to habibti. It’s correct now.
Oh, I just meant that he’s less formal this time, based on the conversation had last time.
Oh, now Nose has blue eyes, like Emma’s when she is touched by magic. I agree with Diloolie, Nose is trying to help her here. Maybe the masks will allow him to hide her from the high-up baddies?

Can’t you tell I love speculating?
Oh, my. Did we just see Scarecrow turn into a mask?!
Yes, yes we did. I was wondering if there was a connection there…
The masks are the spirits taken by the ghost. That now includes Scarecrow…
No, I mean that his normal face is very similar to the masks, I was wondering if there was some other connection.
At this point, I don’t see how others can still assume Nose is the good guy.
He’s fond of Emma? He’s been helpful to her? I find him ambiguous at the moment, not clearly good or evil. I am leaning toward goodish, because he could have behaved much worse to Emma than he has so far.
He could easily be waiting to kill her with kindness
I wonder if this is really Nose, or Emma’s subconscious is feeding her enough information to piece this imposing masked man into the dream. It it is a dream.
Until it is known what the motives of Nose–and his boss–are, I’d say it is presumptuous to say he’s “good” or “evil”; if such terms ever have validity.
Good guy? Bad guy?
Such labels are irrelevant.
Whatever actions 55 takes, they are taken for its own purposes, to serve its own ends.
Oh dang…. O.O
I’m with xpacetrue. This whole scenario looks pretty sinister. Especially the not giving her a choice part. The masks seem to be connected to the ghost(s), and I’m thinking they might have something to do with the Rippers.
The best villains are those who genuinely believe they are doing the right thing…
The worst villains, rather… at least if one happens to be on the receiving end of “the right thing”.
Wonder if this is part of the conversion process for a Nameless.
I am afraid that is true. Whatever your Name might be, when your wearing a mask you are Nameless.
Nameless?
… You mean the numbered folk?
Ah, so Scarecrow WAS killed by Emma in a sense now. And dont tell me this’ll be like a rip-off of “As the world falls down” from the Labrynth as Nose tries to seduce his Habiti
She didn’t really KILL him… He was just… ABOSORBED by that….. Whatever it was………
Hmm, so maybe the “masks” look like masks because they’re out of range or something? Considering what just happened to the Scarecrow when Emma put some distance between them…
I think it has something to do with perception, like the Scarecrow is a mask but Emma perceives the mask as the scarecrow. Just a guess though.
Well that was unexpected…..
So by using that mask he can make the other mask be far from her? and he can control that space?! Well, if he is a former namesake, he must been to that place many times, right? How interesting.
see?! this man is NO competition for warrick
GET THE HELL BACK IN THE STORY WARRICK
I’M STILL NOT SURE ABOUT NOSE!! He still seems fairly ambiguous, but my trust is dwindling by the second. I DON’T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE!!! D”:

Nice work Ladies~
. . . it seriously just looks like he’s organizing those papers though.
…
XD
“IS THERE A FILING CABINET IN HERE?”
“Well Sir, we filled out the paperwork and put it in the outbox.
“. . . we wish you the best in finding the outbox.”
So this might have an interesting implication. Scarecrow turned to mask when Emma stopped paying attention to him. Have we seen her focus on the other masks? Would we be able to see who they are if she did?
Oooh! I like that idea.
Get out of here, Nose, and take the creepiness with you!
I kept thinking that looks like the mask from the chapter 10 cover, but it’s not quite the same. Still making me worry if it’s related to ghostly involvement, though. Nnnngh, it’s almost Thursday! Soon! *pokes refresh button forever*

I wait anxiously for the next update.
OTL
wallahi every time Nose says habibti I squeal. The inclusion of so many lovely people of color is a fantastic & vital part of this comic imho (◡‿◡✿)
Still curious that all the meatbags here keep referring to 55 as “Nose”.
Isn’t that just a nickname used by 46 and possibly 72 for it?
