Thumbelina
on June 28, 2012 at 12:00 amHey folks! Quick question for you guys. So, Isa and I are considering possibly buying a dedicated printer for prints, bookmarks and other products. Is there anything you guys would possibly like to see? Any particular-sized prints, things like that? We want to make sure the cost is worth it, and we want to make things to make you guys happy!

I have a potential addiction for buying all the Namesake stuff.
Just FYI because I will buy many things.
Wow Thumbelina is Realllllllly pretty!
Ummm, I’m not seeing an image…
OK, now I am…
There was a bit of a goof from Meg and she forgot the text for the bubble that says “As for you…”
Sorry, there was a moment where I was trying to fix the comic. Had a missing text bubble!
This is so frickin amazing, I am fanboy squealing on the inside!:D Keep up the good work! Also just wondering does a namesake have to be gender specific to it’s name, could there be a male version of a female namesake and vice versa?
It’s probably gender specific only for the reason that names tend to be gender specific. But if someone named a dude Alice, he could be a namesake.
Story writing powers have activated. If I can stop procrastinating about all of my other projects, you can expect a Namesake fanfiction.
Alright that seems reasonable. Will any of the fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers be namesakes? Or would that be kind of hard with names like Rapunzel, Snow White, or (squeals with excitement) Red Riding Hood? Emma is the name I gave Red in the story I haven’t finished yet. I would love to tell u guys about it.
If there WAS a Red Riding Hood Namesake, her name could be Scarlet!
Well… I suppose I can forgive you… this time.
And I for one would love bookmarks!
Huh. I’d like a plushie of those cute little demon puppy things.
Me, too! They’re adorable!
They little Domovoi, Russian household creatures. These are young thought, they have yet to have beards…
Some large format posters would be nice. Especially of the main cast. Maybe even some panel/pages prints. I know there are some pages I’d love to have on my wall.
Which pages in particular? The chapter covers will all be available.
The printer we’re looking at does prints up to 13×19 inches.
Wow, Thumbelina is SOO pretty! Quick question though: on the chapter cover Thumbelina didn’t have any freckles, but she does here. Was that intentional? Was it a different Thumbelina Namesake, or am I just putting too much importance on freckles?
Anyways, I’m super curious as to what those little demon shadow things are, because they’re rather adorable. Also, Isameg, I think Namesake bookmarks are a really neat idea, that’s something I would definitely buy.
She was standing to close to a rodent when it farted.
Awww! I rather like the little tiny image of Thumbelina, mostly because she has shorter hair than the upclose version? Either way, she’s adorable.
As for merchandise, I’d love to have some Namesake bookmarks! Maybe some postcard sized prints? I don’t put up a lot of posters, to be honest, but I have a little binder where I keep prints that are page sized and smaller. Also, looking at some of these characters, maybe plushies should be in the future? Those little demon babies and the Chesire Cat, for example, would be all too cute.
Was Thumbelina originally this small or did she become like this later? I assume she’s either a Namesake or the literal character from Hans Christian Andersen’s story. Though, I can’t imagine a Namesake being BORN that small. And it’s hard for me to imagine a character from any story being given the position of head of Calliope.
Ironically, 1876 (the year this and the last intermission takes place) is the year that the world’s shortest woman, Pauline Musters, was born. Before she died, she only grew to be 19 inches tall.
Still, you didn’t answer the question…
It’s okay if you will actually answer it in the story itself, though.
We are planning on having Alice number 2 give everyone a grand tour.
No, I didn’t.
Spoilers!
Pauline Musters stood 23 inches tall. I believe you are confusing her with Caroline Crachami, who was 19 and a half inches tall when she died at the age of nine. Caroline’s young age is, of course, the reason that “Princess Pauline” holds the record for smallest adult human.
Hmm … then this piece got it wrong then? It’s citing the 2005 Guinness.
I memorized the stats from an earlier Guinness, and they square up with the net research I did before writing my comment, consulting several separate sources for each person. I guess if cookbooks can have errors in later versions (Joy Of Cooking is a notorious example), the Guinness WBOR can acquire errors too.
Sheesh, nice welcoming Thumbelina!
I’m laughing about her saying she can be called Lina for more than the obvious reference.
Short, red-haired, calls down FIERY DEATH AND DESTRUCTION DRAGON SLAVE?
…two out of three?
Not a very warm welcome, I must say.
Ha! Thumbelina! Which would imply Tom Thumb as well?
Where does Thumbelina find tiny makeup products to stay so stylish?
The samples aisle?
I in very real danger of falling in love with the little black creatures. They are so cute!
bookmarks bookmarks bookmarks yes please bookmarks! (I collect them, can you tell?)
Also after I posted this comment, I got a 404 Page Not Found. I think Comic Easel is a bit buggy…
It’s not Comic Easel, it’s WordPress. I fixed it.
I wonder who the guy with the remarkably impressive beard might be. Is he a namesake too?
Now that we finally are seeing Calliope for the first time, I’m glad to see that you are updating the “Cast” pages to clarify how it works. Namesakes and Writers! Now Fred’s comment makes sense and we get some inkling of what Elaine’s role may be. Great to see this stowry getting richer with every turn!
Yup! And I’m adding Thumbelina to the cast page now that her appearance is live as well. The latest Comic Easel update allowed me to rework the cast page just how I wanted it, and now I’m getting a chance to add everyone’s photos as well.
This page is full of cute! First the adorable little imp-like critters, then Thumbelina looking like a sweet tiny doll. …Although, I would never say that where she could hear me. I’m already under the impression that she’s a very capable woman. She commands your respect the moment you hear her speak!
I want Thumbelina poster
*o*
Who’s that boy behind Alice in the first panel?
Darn it, now I’m caught up with the comic. That always happens just when it’s getting exciting. Why couldn’t I have gone another year before finding out it existed?
Nah, it’s been pretty great. I’m sure it’ll get even better, and now I’ll be here to see it happen.
Just a tip from someone who has a large format printer – make sure you find out where you can actually buy your printer’s ink and if you can get it in bulk! If you can’t, then it may actually be cheaper to print through a printing shop or service because you will just run through it incredibly fast doing poster-size prints. The ink always is more expensive longterm than the printer itself.
oh my gosh i was SO CONFUSED I thought thumbelina was the guy holding her….
