This character and the stories I’ve heard of her have inspired me to collect the Oz books. I love her so much and any world she could live in is a world I want to learn more about. Never give up! Never surrender!
Jinjur is pretty awesome. I always saw her as a bit of whiny, demanding and cowardly person, but if she wants something, she will never give up until she has it. She has a difficult and flawed personality, but her determination and flare are admirable. I guess that’s why I like her, becasue she’s flawed, yet badass.
I reformatted my desktop PC today and got the usual unpleasant surprise when I checked back on Namesake. (Yes, I re-read it several times between updates.) So I’m finally gonna ask: what’s up with the soft-core porn comic advertisements beneath the comic? It’s easy enough to bypass with Firefox and ad blocking software, but it sure is awkward and unpleasant on public computers, and times like this, when I’m not using Firefox for whatever reason, to be reading the delicious Namesake goodness and have to get an eyeful of shiny bubble boobs and lady asses.
Soft-core porn? In the project wonderful ads? I know sometimes there’s some low-cut necklines and corset-ish clothingon those , but it’s all webcomic or online crafter ads. Some webcomics might be trying to catch reader’s eyes with shapely figures, but none of those ads should be for porn. We made sure of that.
Based on the, like, twenty times I’ve seen them (granted, a small percent of my visits) it seems there’s always at least one ad that’s literally nothing but a pair of barely covered breasts or a completely bared, glistening, female butt accompanied by the name of the comic.
I don’t mean to sound critical…it’s just that I love this comic and it seems classier than the adverts.
At first I was going to suggest clearing your browser cache and/or history, but after a little poking I begin to think that there may be an issue on Project Wonderful’s End. I’ve now looked at and refreshed the Namesake pages in both Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 10.0.2 — and the ad displays are completely stuck on the exact same images *in both browsers* no matter what I do. (In my case, ironically, there are no boobs whatsoever; the banner below the comic page is for Jenny Everywhere, Time for Sleep, and El Peso Hero, and the one to the right of the comments column is for…Namesake itself.)
(One other thought: depending on what Google tech Project Wonderful is using, both our results may be affected by fallout from the privacy-merging Google’s just implemented across all its services.)
Heh. And *now* it changes — slightly (one new strip in the banner, still no boobs (Vox Ex Machina for Gamers). Still Namesake on the right, though (Jack really is a handsome devil).
I know Meg pulled an add that was just way too sexy for both our tastes once, but i’m generally okay with scantily clad, as long as it leads to a decent comic. True, it’s not Namesake’s type of style, but the ads don’t represent Namesake either. Except that Jack one.
I almost never really see the boobs though. Maybe it’s because I see the canadian-aimed ads? They are super quiet. One is about miniture golf.
I do check the sites before I approve of the ads. And yes, some of them do at times use racier images to promote themselves, but when I click through the comics are harmless. This site doesn’t accept NSFW comics, so unless the advertiser has pulled a bait-and-switch tactic, which has happened before, everything should be safe.
It also depends on what country you’re in the ads you see. For example, Isa sees different ads than I do because she’s in Canada and I’m in the U.S.
And I’m in Australia, so that would explain the ads I see of “Claude”, “Toilet Genie”, etc.
But I’m not here for ads, I’m here for “NAMESAKE”! And I think Jinjur will prove a rather worthy opponent to the Poppies (and Renge). Maybe she’ll have a reluctant truce with Warrick as well . . .
This is a little belated, but I think I’ve found one offender. I like to call it “Worst Banner Ever”, or some reasonable variant thereof (actually, it doesn’t deserve notoriety even for that, because surely there have been worse). Suffice it to say, “Twice Blessed” has used some objectionable imagery in one of their ads, featuring some paladin leering at the cleavage of some young woman whose face is not shown. Meg — uh — could I ask you to have those responsible seriously reconsider what they’re putting in their ads? I don’t want to bother you with it, but it doesn’t seem respectful of the rest of us. (Carry on, carry on…talk amongst yourselves….)
We really don’t have that much direct contact with the advertisers. We can either accept or reject a bid or cancel a bid after it’s been submitted. We can explain why we’re rejecting a bid, but I’ve just gone and read through Twice Blessed’s archives, and there’s nothing wrong with the content.
Twice Blessed did not pull a bait-and-switch. That ad you mentioned was the one he submitted, and I checked his archive at the time as well. It’s really a fine line because the Project Wonderful ads are one of our sources of income. Not a huge source of income, but enough to where we can promote Namesake on other sites.
The other ads in question aren’t even in our rotation right now, so there really shouldn’t be any issues. If they submit another bid, I’ll run the sites by Isa to see if she has any problems with them.
I haven’t read Twice Blessed in over 6 months (I lost track of a lot of comics when my computer died), but I enjoyed the humor then. The ads that the comic used definitely are risque, though not actual porn. The comic itself definitely has fan service, the characters do actually have sex live, and in fact are kind of cads. So, yeah, maybe not the perfect ad for this site, but still not porn.
Personally, I sometimes like suggestive humor, and found (and enjoyed) that comic because of ads like that.
My view is:
This comic is dark and depressing at times, and not really suitable for young children. I think anyone that can handle the death of Adora should be able ignore a little cleavage, even if skin bothers them.
Hey, if anybody’s still reading this thread…I did a little research and found one offending banner. I would just LOOOVE to encourage everybody else to identify and share exactly whose ads are at fault. Why, you ask? ‘Cuz then we can put pressure on them to CHANGE THEIR ADS to something legitimate. (Thank you for your kind attention.)
Yikes!! It’s like being buried alive!!! *shudder*
Creepier and creepier
It’s like they’re trying to suffocate her O_O
Knitting needles as weaponry? Grandma would be proud.
She hasn’t given up yet. That’s the way to do it. As long as you can still fight, then fight.
Such LANGUAGE! And in Oz, even!

Actually, that is “flair”, but maybe “flare” works as well. Or better.
This doesn’t look good…
You write characters the way I wanted them to be in the Oz books. :3
this…this i did not anticipate.
I hope Jinjur and the other girls will be able to get out. Jinjur is too awesome to say goodbye to.

Damn that handsome devil!

I don’t remember seeing any boob shots in the ads recently. The ones I have right now are Jenny’s Everywhere, the Flying Cloud, and El Peso Hero.
A lot of webcomics DO use scantily clad images in advertisements, even if that’s not the main thrust (pardon the entendre) of the comic in question.

I love it! I didn’t like this character till now.
I’m in Texas and get the boobie and bootie ads too. They are a bit uncomfortable.
Sam here.
Same here.

Imprisoning Japanese schoolgirls, are you? Not in MY comic!
Oh, wait, this isn’t my comic, and I don’t have access to a Fourth Wall…
