That’s gonna be awkward to explain to the insurance company anyway.
ATTACK OF THE EVIL (actually good) VINES!
You see, there was this growth elixir and it got knocked out a window… What? Not working? Ok, would you believe magic vines gone crazy because the Skeleton Key girl we made was resonating with her actual counterpart in a subconscious/dream state? No?… Ummm… Then I’m out.
So the vines are after the Vorpal sword? Or they’re responding to one of the Emmas?
Our Emma is awake, good.
I do like seeing One look bewildered.
Pretty sure that those veins are responding to Emma’s emotion.
YOU know now that I think about it, wasn’t sleeping beauty trap within the castle by magical thorny veins?
Maybe the veins are part of SB Emma’s story?
Perhaps you’re right. The vines being attributed to Sleeping Beauty make sense, but I think why the vines are responding to Emma, is the SB Emma had her name taken away and given another title like what happened to Nose. Killer thorny vines do show up in Sleeping Beauty, but are a bit more prominent in the Grimm Brothers’ Briar Rose. In the manga Ludwig Revolution, the sleeping princess was the one actually controlling the thorns, there actually was no curse, she somewhat pulled herself into her century long sleep. There was no happy ending for her and the prince, though a sad and bittersweet one at that.
Exactly. as soon as Emma wakes up the vines go crazy, and in away the whole concept of the princess controlling the vines fit in this scenario quite nicely. I read that manga and I have to say Ludwig and sleeping beauty were my OTP, kind of sad about the ending but still a nice read overall.
Maybe the vines aren’t for killing, but for protection. I never read the original Grimm’s tales, but I do remember that the vines made the kingdom impenetrable while Beauty slept.
They can easily be only something they put inside her (as opposed to being originally hers).
The vines are responding to Emma and SB Emma. Warrick says she makes him feel like he has a heart. She has numerous flashbacks about Warrick. Ozma and SB Emma have a lot of similarities (coma, ‘trapped’ in a nest o vines, have had their name sold/made someone else sell their name). Warrick still can’t find his heart.
Are Ozma and Emma connected somehow???
Warrick can’t locate his heart in Oz; he can sense it but he can’t locate it anymore than we can catch a rainbow. If his heart isn’t in Oz but still has a connection of some kind to Oz, that explains why he can’t locate it. Ozma can’t wake up even though she was released from the vines…perhaps Ozma’s ‘soul’ isn’t in her body? Perhaps SB-Emma’s manifestation to Our-Emma is a deception and its really Ozma?
Yeah, that is truly wild speculation, even for me.
Warrick always said from the beginning that he could never really find his heart, no matter how hard he searched. And his calm-range was brutally shortened when Ozma emerged from the vines-which, fair enough, could just be the fact that the vines amplified her powers/Emma’s protect spell kind of psuedo-worked as a heart spell, but what if it’s something more? (Emma, for instance, left at the same time that Ozma was freed from the vines, and Warrick might not have connected the two events).
Yeah like??? At first I assumed that Warrick and Emma were just truly written in the stars, like Emma just thought Warrick was her Best Dude and that was why she remembered him constantly in lieu of everyone else in Oz (despite the fact that she has a strong bond w/Scarecrow and Hercilia). So it could be that somehow she has…Ozma’s name? Some kind of technical clause in her that makes it that a part of Warrick’s heart is in her/affecting her, and making it so that she remembers him.
Also I was totally gonna say that the vines were a coincidence (looking at all the comments about Briar Rose being trapped IN BRAMBLES….WHOOPS) until I remembered that Emma killed the vines just by touching them again when she first got there, so. Same vines. Same reactions. The plot thickens??????
Ok, so I’m not the only one that ws thinking it. That’s a relief.
I’ve had the idea for a while that Emma (or the ghost) has been carrying around Warrick’s heart since this page: http://namesakecomic.com/comic/little-witch/ I was thinking that’s what she meant by “this is mine now.”
In an earlier scene Warrick senses his heart through the vines and they follow it to the same fountain where this happens, but they don’t end up finding his heart. http://namesakecomic.com/comic/is-it-too-late-to-abort-the-mission/ And it ends up not being with Ozma either. And right after that he starts getting smiley around her: http://namesakecomic.com/comic/join-the-revolution/ I’m not sure if it has to do with an Ozma connection, though?
I had a whole reply but YES, BEST
Me thinks Emma pwns the vines. Because:
1. “This is mine now, Little Witch.”, spoken in creep voice. http://namesakecomic.com/comic/little-witch/
2. The huggy vines selected Emma from the line-up outside Ripper House. http://namesakecomic.com/comic/emmas-arrival/
What would Ozma’s vines be doing outside of Oz? Maybe they’re growing through the hole in the world. Or someone didn’t declare them to Customs. Pesky things get everywhere!
(first post, recently found this web comic. luv it!)
They don’t seem to be Ozma’s plants. These ones are thorny.
This definitely ties into Sleeping Beauty…many Namesakes seem to exhibit powers that are extensions of their narratives, seen to a great extent with Bird and Fish. So…Emma’s natural power from that seems to be control over plants as a whole, or at least vines…but except for that particular scene you mentioned there, they’ve been subconscious.
I think the vines look awfully-suspiciously similar as well, and I’m so glad you brought up that scene! When she ‘claimed’ the vines, I wasn’t sure if it was Emma finally feeling comfortable with her powers or something else (the ghost that seemed to be ‘helping’ Emma, in order to escape). I was kind of leaning toward the idea that Emma was giving up her consciousness to use those powers, first unintentionally and then intentionally.
OH! Vines! Sleeping Beauty! Duh! how could I have missed that >.<
Theory corner time~
When SB Emma sold her name and made ghost Emma the vines that coverd her "castle" were put at bay since the story was stopped. When the sword got removed Emma started spewin stories/lifeforce out and my guess is that the original Sleeping Beauty slipped out and returned home, setting the protective vines back in motion. And since Ghost Emma has other stories stuffed into her she doesn't need Sleeping Beauty to function. Either that or SB Emma's powers include vine telekinesis. This also makes me wonder if SB Emma has a protection spell on her as a "while you sleep no [magical] harm can come to you" and it extends to Ghost Emma
man all hell is just breaking loose. I get the feeling not everyone is going to get away. 8C
It looks like our Emma and Sleeping Beauty Emma have switched situations. Is Emma going to end up asleep until someone kisses her? (Did I miss this in a different page?) Is It going to be Warrick? You must feed the shippers! We are growing boys and girls, we need food.
Actually the Emma with the eyes open is our Emma (I’m fairly sure). You can see the clothes, the lack of a braid and the MR around her.
So does anyone else think that One is a card from wonderland like Fred? I think that the diamond on his forehead would seem to suggest that, and he has a strong relationship with Ina.
Three predictions (probably all wrong):
The vines will take them all to Oz.
Nose will turn out to be Warrick, or a construct made from him.
Emma will turn out to be Ozma, or an Ozma namesake.
All rather farfetched, but there are hints for all of them in the story.
“Screw your stupid house One.” is pretty much what they are saying here. But in all seriousness is this some connection to Oz?
Am I the only one completely confused on what’s going on? Got lost with the whole Emma is a ghost thing… my brain isn’t processing this. =/
I’m unsure if that’s a diamond ON One’s head, or a diamond shaped hole IN his head.
I’ve been wondering that as well…
I wonder if the castle originally belonged to SB Emma, or if the vines are transplanted from her “world”–or if her psyche connects to any vines around her.
Also, totally unrelated to the update, but I just received copies of books one and two via the storenvy sale and love them! The illustrations look even more beautiful in print. XD Thank you for your hard work! Also, when is the kickstarter for book 3? Did it happen already? o_O
Gee, hope one has a bottle of round-up around somewhere…
I just noticed that one of the vines has gone in a window, and another one may go inside the new hole in the roof.
I hope nobody we care about is in either of those rooms.
Uh oh. Why did the vines suddenly go berserk like this? *lol* I hope One and the Rippers have a way to STOP them before they wind up like the denziens of Oz that are trapped in eternal sleep in the vines. Or will THESE vines simply KILL all of them as soon as they find them? *lol*
It’s an invasive species, Rippers. You gotta go to the EPA if you want sympathy.
