Well, it says that the location is Oz in the title notes; but I hold back until further information is forthcomming, given how sneaky the author ladies can be about their story.
Emma’s waking up like that reminds me so much of how the Wonderland characters spin-warp-dissolve-disappear when Alice wakes up at the end of Walt Disnye’s animated movie.
In Wonderland Alice wakes up in the garden with her sister
in Behind the looking glass Alice wakes up shaking her kitten (she was shaking the red queen at that moment) and then goes all philisophical about “Was I dreaming about all that or is this just a dream of one of the residents of wonderland…?”
Yes, it does look like Elaine noticed Emma “touch” her and looked very surprised. But, somehow, I don’t think that’s an image of the current Elaine. I think it’s a vision of the FUTURE Elaine who’s writing the stories which makes Emma a Namesake.
My goodness! i honestly think it’s one of the calliope members, weren’t they the only ones who knew that her sister is Elaine. Hmm… This is getting better and better.
It makes perfect sense that Emma wakes up in Oz again. She’s in a bed, obviously. And I would imagine that after Warrick healed her they put her in a bed to rest and recuperate. (It’s what they did for Analise to help her recover from brain poppies.) I mean, is there a better explanation for how she wakes up to find herself in a bed in the real world or Wonderland?
Something is certainly in the bed next to her, although to me it looks more like an oversized throw pillow (or possibly a rolled-up throw rug) than a Warrick. And are those octopus suction cups on the whatever-it-is?
Oh, dear. And somehow, I don’t think the pillow is going to feel any better if it finds out I sat here laughing incoherently for several minutes straight after seeing this response. (I can foot the therapy bills for the pillow’s counseling sessions, provided the therapist will accept Monopoly money.)
Now I just have to work out the guilt complex I’m sure to develop over having caused such severe emotional distress to a virtual pillow….
Can’t breathe XD
I was just about to get the sads from reading the whole comic so quickly, and then I saw this gem. Choking on laughter
Seriously though, you guys have an amazing comic. *hugs*
Is it weird that I just rummaged through the archives to see if misunderstood throw pillow belonged to the Choppers?
And the answer I found is… maybe? (It also seems to match one of Selva’s shirts, but maybe that’s unintentional stylistic stuff?)
I realize I’m a bit late commenting here, but I just wanted to say that the first few panels here read deliciously Gunnerkrigg Court Zimmy-esque to me.
Also this whole dream sequence is awesome.

Creepy! At least Emma’s awake and ok. I think that’s Warrick talking, guess it’s time to go home.
Way to be ultra creepy ladies.
Is she…still in Oz??
I think she is but can’t be too sure with a story like this

Funny patterned pillow, lying next to her . . .
She’d wake up like that in the books too

Yes I know, I do have the books and have seen the other films.
Seems like Elaine “felt” her; she even dropped the quill pen.

Well. And now I’m caught up. All in a few hours. Welp.
My goodness! i honestly think it’s one of the calliope members, weren’t they the only ones who knew that her sister is Elaine. Hmm… This is getting better and better.
I think she’s in Emerald City and Renge is talking.

her eyes aren’t normally blue…are they?
I think the blue eyes indicate the reality warping moments…it happened when she went from Oz to the paper-world, and again just there.
And suddenly I’m trying to remember if she told anyone in Oz about her sister and whether or not that included her sister’s name.
She says Elaine’s name at the beginning of chapter 5. She also mentions her sister in chapter 9 when trying to convince Warrick to apologize to Selva.
Oooh! Thanks!
It’s Warrick talking, and he’s lying in the bed next to her, right? RIGHT?

I saved this XD

That sketch was the first thing to make me laugh in days, I needed that. Thanks!
That is so funny I don’t have words to describe it!
