Oh goodie, I just found this comic, read all the way through, and got that terrible “oh no I’ve reached the most recent page and now I have to WAIT!?” feeling. So I poke around trying to extend the magic, going back and finding the cover page that portended the Scarecrow-Trojan-Horse, searching for the dark lady with the mole and the true identity of the Maybe-Dorthy-Ghost in all the little scraps of hints we’ve been dropped, and when I get back here there’s another brand new page waiting for me! It’s even posted early. Thank you magic comic faeries!
I really love the effort you two put into this comic, I tell my friends about almost all the time. If you guys ever show up at Comic Con, I would totally show up the booth.
SDCC is a bit too far out for both of us, but we are looking at cons to participate in next year. While I’d like to do a West Coast con, it makes more sense for us to do East Coast ones unless somehow we manage to get our expenses covered.
I see! I am blessed by my geographic location. I’m actually having lots of fun discussing all my newly-formed theories on the comic with friends who have been reading it for a while. Due to lack of further clues most of our conversations devolve into a general “ARGH!” consensus after a while. I hope you’re happy. (We’re sure having fun)
I think you should also know that you have caused me to seriously question my sanity for the last half hour or so. Having JUST READ the comic, I went back to remind myself who Jinjur was, and found a greyscale page where I CLEARLY remembered thinking “My those uniforms are brightly colored.” Causing a spiral of self-doubt and confusion. Until a friend very helpfully sent me a cached copy of the page. IN FULL TECHNICOLOR. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:WADvqrw9wEQJ:http://www.namesakecomic.com/comic/b01chap03-01-meanwhileinthewestofoz/%2Bnamesake+comic+meanwhile+in+the+west&client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&gs_l=serp.3…6663.11370.0.11529.13.10.0.3.0.0.72.607.10.10.0…0.0.Db50swAUgXg&hl=en&spell=1&ct=clnk
So I am not insane, but you are terribly cruel for letting me think so! May I ask why the overhaul of the old pages? Will there be a place where we can still find the old versions, for those of us in need of assuring ourselves we have not begun to sink into madness? Madness I say!
You’re not nuts. Right after I responded to your first comment, I was working on replacing the web version of chapter 3 with the book version of the pages. When book 1 came out a couple months ago, the coloring for the first three chapters was redone to match the current style. The text got another editing pass as well to tighten some of the language and make sure we didn’t accidentally leave any gaping plotholes.
I can put back up some of the older pages under the extras so people can see those colorful uniforms, which I really liked as well!
Good to know! I do think that sometimes it’s nice to go back and make a work more consistent once a style is decided on, but at the same time it’s such a shame to not have a way to look at the previous work. I think it all plays a part in how a story develops, and it’s nice to have the option to see that, even if it doesn’t end up in the final draft.
So, did you find and gaping plotholes when you went back and looked? Has the story changed enough since your first draft to allow plotholes like that?
Actually, nope! We really didn’t. The only thing I had to make sure was that Selva’s characterization was consistent with her developed history in chapter 7. Selva grew beyond what we were expecting. Everything else was pretty much getting the fonts to match and tightening some of the excessive wordiness.
I have all of the original files and don’t plan to get rid of them. Maybe we’ll do something with them some day!
Will you guys be doing Grimm’s Fairy Tales anytime soon? But then I think it could be a bit difficult with some of them like; Rapunzel, Snow White, or Red Riding Hood. I was writing a book about Red that I never finished, and I gave her the name Emma. This was a few years back before namesake so it’s not stealing. You guys can use it if you want. Only you guys!
Well; if you’re looking for a good Grimm’s-themed comic, you should check out “Erstwhile” (http://www.erstwhiletales.com/), which presents some of the lesser-known stories.
Hmmm, something ominous this way comes…
and I wouldn’t expect Jinjur to be excited to see Chiseri again.
I think whatever was inside Scarecrow has made the vines worse in some way. Is anyone here going to Comic-Con this year?

You’re welcome! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the comic! We update at midnight Eastern time, which is a treat for folks on the West Coast.

Too bad I had to move.
You’d have more problems wiggling out of PCC then.

Well, if vines containing Ozma can be considered odd, then these vines are indeed odd.
Heh, what I was thinking Pip. I feel like, standing that close to his heart, Warrick should be able to tell. Shame on him for an unobservant Warlock.
Yep, another vine mess he’s about to get them into…
*Groooooan* Are you happy now Reynard? You are so punny. (Good name, by the way.)
Ahh, Jinjur. It must be lovely to exist in your world, where EVERYTHING is about you.
It’s what makes her so special.
*claws hands at face ineffectually* Warrick! Emma! Ozma. Is. In. The. Vines! Wait. Where is scarecrow?! ARGH! This will end in tears!
OZMA. IS. IN. THE. VINES! Y u no listen!?!?! http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/004/006/y-u-no-guy.jpg
