Wow, I know the guy is being controlled by that poppy, but damn he knows where to hit where it hurts. (Also, Poor Jinjur! She’s lost both her husband and her home)
AAack, more Poppies minions appeared. Though, I’ve already seen the poppies control Anlise, but the last panel makes me shiver and breakout into goosebumps.
I don’t know if this is what Riverfeud was pointing out, but there seems to be a word missing from the first speech bubble in panel 5 (Our homes have been swallowed the poppies) I don’t mean to be blunt or rude, I just wanted to point that out, you two probably have a lot on your plates. Aside from that, I can hardly look at poppies the same way again after reading this comic. Wonderful work, ladies
Yeah, I was over an hour late getting home from work last night and had to letter/upload quickly because my husband was shoving birthday gifts at me. ^_~ I’ll fix it in a couple of minutes.
Hm. Jinjur appears to be aware of the mind-control aspect of the poppies. I would have thought that she and her troops would be wearing helmets, if they knew about that.
Maybe they have an herbicidal shampoo/hair gel that they’ve applied?
I dunno…It’s true Renge keeps looking more and more evil, but something just doesn’t sit right with it all! Maybe it’s just that it seems too easy because of how the first wizard was so evil and now she’s a wizard. Maybe it’s the fact that, at one time at least, she did seem as if she was a very good care giver that truly cared for those around her. Maybe I just don’t know enough about the world. I haven’t read any of the books, but I feel there’s more behind the Renge thing than just her trying to take over or something.
We can only hope the poppy-ized residents of Emerald City are not as deadly individually as Anlise was – otherwise it’s going to be difficult as hell for ANYONE to get it, not to mention Jinjur.
I am liking Renge less and less. I mean, controlling people with poppies in their brains and taking away their free will. That is not something a “benevolent” ruler does to their subjects.
It may be important down the line to distinguish between Renge (the apparent Evil Mastermind) and Jellia Jamb (loyal servant to Ozma, in effect the palace chatelaine though never actually called this in the books). It remains entirely possible that Renge is a separate intelligence that took over Jellia’s body at some point.
At least I hope it becomes important; I always rather liked Jellia….
I wonder if the “protective” green goggles added to the evident downfall of the Emerald City. When everything is toned green, you’re less likely to notice red poppies start showing up in the folk around you, and green vines moving along the street might blend into everything else… bum bum BUM.
I KNEW IT!! I knew he was going to be poppy possessed!! Looks like Emma’s correct about there being other people possessed by the poppies. Which definitely does not bode well for Jinjur, her army, and the gang. And i’m starting to like Renge less and less.
I’m sure Renge probably feels that what she’s doing is right, but knows that what she’s doing would be perceived as wrong. Much like a man trying for world domination may do so in order to completely stop war and fix the problems of society.
I’d sign on for a revolt if the government wasn’t doing anything about the encroaching death-sleep fields that took my house, home and husband. Wouldn’t mentioning these things been a better recruit line than the one about wrinkles and aging?

Heads up: “Our homes have been swallowed the poppies!”
I hope Jinjur kicks some poppy controlled ass!
Dear God, is the entire Emerald City like this? It’s like the freaking Borg. Resistance is futile.
Hm. An Oz/Star Trek crossover ….

Happy Birthday?

Now we know why Jinjur is revolting. Again. But Scarecrow doesn’t . . .
“There’s a lot of garbage coming out of your head.” You know, that’s actually quite a very good line.
We see Renge is a villain more and more every time . . . Thanks!
Yeesh, it’s like “Wizard of Oz” meets “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” But instead of pod people, we’ve got poppy people!
Everything goes to zombies…er, Pombies… in the end.

Err, “get in”. I miss comment editing…
aha! that answers that

Renge jumped off the slippery slope and passed her Moral Event Horizon quite some time ago. Well-Intentioned Extremist, probably.
TV Troper?
Who isn’t?
If there is somebody, they need to go lose a few days over there.
I have several of my own Tropes PAGES.
Damn you for the TVTropes refrences. Now I’ll be lost for days…
My work here is done!
Finally figured out how the comments work! Loving the story! And a Happy Birthday to you!
Happy birthday, Meg!
Happy birthday! I love the page, it looks absolutely amaze sauce!
Wait, where the hell did his key go?
Happy Birthday!
My one observation about Renge at this point:
It may be important down the line to distinguish between Renge (the apparent Evil Mastermind) and Jellia Jamb (loyal servant to Ozma, in effect the palace chatelaine though never actually called this in the books). It remains entirely possible that Renge is a separate intelligence that took over Jellia’s body at some point.

Wouldn’t it be freaky if the poppies have become sentient and are controlling Renge too?
Ah yes, and a Happy Birthday to Megs of course.

Death Note. All I’m gonna say…
Are you making Light of the situation?

Her initial revolt basically had to do with disliking housework. Jinjur’s energetic and a self-starter, but she’s terribly narrow-focused.
The two new arrivals seem familiar… I think from Jinjur’s exposition much earlier on, perhaps…
