I like this layout!
One doesn’t know what the noise is, but does he have a guess?
Fred’s face! <3 He seems less than pleased to be leaving the closet. Or is it concern for Alice's (hopefully) temporary loss of her powers?
Seriously: WHY IS INA ALL WOBBLY?! Tell me we find out what that's about soon…
I think, Angie, that it is implied that Ina is incorporeal. Ghost-like. Maybe even “bulked up” a bit by a few stories that are not her own, herself. I can’t imagine how else she’s managed to stay alive all this time.
Hmm…I think this was a theory that was discussed when we first came to One’s home. Would that mean Ina was one of the first skeleton key projects? (Dang! I’m pretty sure I TOOK PART in the theory making, but it’s been so long since it was last discussed that I just don’t remember. -_-)
Discus has a post history, so you should be able to look through it and find the original discussion.
Personally, I can’t help but to imagine there being Emma prototypes all over the place.
Eurgh! Now I’m imagining that part from the last Aliens movie where clone Ripley finds some of her failed twin sisters. Isa, Meg, don’t get any ideas from this!
I think its more likely that trying to open the door quietly failed, so Alice will now use the Vorpal blade on the door. As for Fred, his look actually reflects Alice’s. They’re using their “Its on!” faces.
I’m guessing Dan no longer has the ability to rewrite the world to his liking. Otherwise, I think he’d try writing her into a haphazardly placed umbrella on the floor, or a door comically opening into her face.
Doesn’t have to be comically if Alice is on the other end of said door, right??
If Ina isn’t a namesake, he couldn’t control her anyway. Remember how Elaine couldn’t make Nose stop when she froze everyone else. And since she is a shadow, he can’t physically hurt her. I’m assuming that’s why she seems to freak him out right now. I get the impression that Writers can’t just rewrite the world. They can only control namesakes and maybe influence thighs from a namesake world (like being able to freeze Alice and being able to make Fred change). So even if Daniel can work his powers with the blue goop memory thing Nose gave him, he is pretty limited here.
On a side note, since Elaine (and presumably Daniel) can influence side characters ( like Fred) from a namesake world, does that mean they can control Warrick or Selva if they were to enter our world? Or perhaps Ozma?
But we did see Dan influence a non-Namesake thing: the door on the previous page. Writers can affect more than just Namesakes. They can affect the environment as we previously saw. Even if Writers can’t affect non-Namesakes, or “secondary characters” as I will be thinking of them now, they can turn the world to their advantage.
I’d like to pose a theory: a Writer’s power is much greater than we have been currently led to believe. Writers can rewrite the world around them if they so desired and had enough energy to do so. Nose’s resistance to Elaine’s Writer abilities is not because Nose is not a Namesake, but because, as a proto-Skeleton Key, he is the main character of many stories, and thus has more “inertia” than other people. Elaine could make everyone but Nose stop because she was redirecting their “characters” in the current “story,” but Nose, being multiple characters, averaged out Elaine’s power across those characters, rendering the stop command zero. Now, if a whole bunch of Writers tried to write Nose into an action, they would probably actually be able to do so.
(Standard disclaimer: fan conjecture, probably not true.)
Emmmmmmaaaaa~ It’s time to wake up~
I do hope that One’s statement about not needing to worry about Emma is a reverse prophecy of overconfidence.
I approve Jack’s calendar item, Emma should add it to hers too.
I forget who it was…maybe The Doctor…who said something like: “All you have to do is say to yourself, I’m not going to kill anyone today…and if you can go a day without killing, you can go a week…then a month…then a year…then a lifetime!”
Worked for me so far, never killed anyone. Haven’t been killed either, come to think of it…
I heard that Doctor had trouble with that “been killed” part. Multiple times.
I don’t understand why writing anything to calendar. I mean, dying is important. Surely I would write it there. So, if the item of “dying” is not on today’s calendar page, I don’t have it on schedule.
At least he recovers well from death. Better than I would anyway…
Reminds me of the annoying sirens placed around Leviathan in FXII. Oh great, now I hear that obnoxious siren ringing in my ears just thinking about it, and now I can’t get it out of my head. *sigh*
Just gamer problems. I feel ya man.
Things are getting interesting!! I want to see what’s going to happen to the Calliope gang as well as Emma. Ina get away from Daniel! >:[ Come on everyone, run like wind!
Any bets on that woman being Emma’s mom?
The two in the center column are Skeleton Key Emma (loose hair, asleep in the MRI) and Sleeping Beauty Emma (braided hair, asleep in her bed). The woman in the center row is Alice Purcell (2009/present-day Alice), and the woman in the bottom row is Ina Liddell (Alice Liddell/1863 Alice’s sister).

Ina Liddell? She’s 160 years old? … she doesn’t look her age
The mysteries of how she’s still alive(ish), the precise nature of her shadow powers, and how she came to be whatever she is now have not yet been explored in the story. I predict we’ll see the second one next week, though…
More of Ina (including her first appearance, in her own time): http://namesakecomic.com/character/ina-liddell/
Poor Alice. I have a feeling our Emma’s are sucking her portal energy away.
I think BOTH Emma’s are doing the sucking.
Note the Emmas. Plural.
Yes, I agree: it should be noted explicitly
“We’re going through the door the normal way” made me giggle too much.
…aaaand all hell breaks loose! I think Daniel looks like he would rather face One than Ina. His wife/mother of Emma? Maybe? This keeps getting curiouser and curiouser!
That was my reaction when she used his name. Before this there was no indication she would ever care to use his name. Heck, no indication she met him either.
Since OurEmma can be healed, eats, etc. it stands to reason OurEmma could have had children someday, if she had been left alone. But the Lady of Darkness she is almost always drawn as not quite solid. I doubt she could be Emma’s mother.
I doubt Ina is Emma’s mother. The comments made about Emma’s mother is that she sold Emma to the Rippers. It doesn’t sound like she really stuck around after that and instead that Daniel went looking for SB Emma and ended joining the Rippers because of One’s blackmail.
It could be interesting if SB Emma is the daughter one of the sisters gave birth to.
RUN DANIEL, RUN!! DON’T GET CAUGHT BY INA’S SNEAKY TENDRILS!!!
She’s calling Daniel by name, she is pissed.
Oh no! I’m all caught up! And right at the exciting bit, to.
(Edit: First, sorry for the long post, but it’s theory time) The connection between Daniel and Ina is a very interesting one, and could quite possibly be many things. When we first me Ina, she was “taking care” of her younger sisters, Alice and Edith. We learned that Ina is in denial of Alice’s powers (to the point of sending Alice to several institutions), but then Edith’s headless corpse emerges from a portal (along with a morbidly-sarcastic Cheshire cat of course). We know that Alice and Carroll (who definitely have feelings for each other) go to Calliope for Alice to be trained, without knowing what happens to Ina. I believe the back story probably answers why Ina is on the Ripper’s side: She feels that Alice and Lewis are responsible for Edith’s death (and ruining her social life), and Calliope serves to support them and others like them who have no regard for others, blah blah blah. Ina has been seen so far “monitoring” SB, but this doesn’t exactly imply a familial (wifey) connection: Ina seems to be One’s right hand wo-man, and SB seems to be the key (pun intended) to controlling and possibly destroying the Namesake way of life, and thus revenge on Calliope. Her timelessness, powers, and revenge-seeking make her a prime candidate to be SB’s guardian, and since SB is (one of?) Daniel’s daughters, Daniel and Ina have an immediate and familiar connection. This takes us back to [namesakecomic.com/comic/the-three-sisters/] where we learn of the “Three sisters” (as an aside, the comment section on that page is confusing, with many trying to list the ‘real life’ geneology of Alice, but I think this was not IsaMeg’s intention for this story), and we learn that the youngest sister is a Namesake, and the oldest sister gives birth to a Namesake, and this has, quote, “Everything” to do with Emma. In fact, One tells Emma that it’s up to her to find the King of Crowns to prevent tragic things from happening (i.e. Edith-eske events). This post is too long as it is, so I’ll stop, but feel free to add theory below! I’m interested in reading what other people think about this.
Actually go through a door?! You mean … opening it first?
I think I’ve figured out what the noise is. It’s the seal being broken on a can of whoop-ass!
“Don’t worry, she’s sedated… What’s that noise?” “Just something that will nullify the sedatio….I mean, isn’t that the alarm? I have no idea. No plans to trump you or free Emma or anything. Nope. Completely loyal here.”
Wait. I thought they didn’t sedate her so it wouldn’t mess with the results. Did I miss something?
I feel like Ina might be Emma’s mom…
