So she went to the Goblin Market world before she went to Oz?
She’s taking this well, not shutting down at all.
That’s the added bonus of getting her memories back — she just remembered that she’s actually kind of a bad-ass.
Yet. Not shutting down…yet.
Anger’s a good preventer of that. Also, she’s still in the middle of enemy territory and needs to find a way out. She can shut down *after* she’s escaped and found plausible safety.
I seem to remember a hovertext comment that noted that Emma has a high tolerance for abnormal shit.
Yes, thank you, that was it!
At last!!! Having Emma without memory was driving me crazy. This is what I’ve been waiting for!
Wait do we even know what the Goblin Market is yet? (in the context of the story, I know it’s a poem IRL)
Wasn’t there talk of it when Jack, Alice & Wendy went to the dead girl’s apartment and were discussing her being addicted to magic stuff?
You know, looking at that page again, I think Alice understood the cat’s comments…Must be useful to go into an area and have the local cats share intel
That look she gives after the cat talks to her. I think you may be right.
And doesn’t it seem like she went right for the stuff under the bed? As if the cat told her where to look.
The best thing about writing a long story is seeing people notice the little details when they re-read.
I have to say I’ve gone back and re-read your comic way more times than I usually revisit previous pages of webcomics, and even most books/print comics. I’d say that’s the mark of a REALLY GOOD story.
YES! Emma remembers Warrick! My inner shipper is quite pleased.
She remembers Her Mother! XD I wonder if we’ll see any flashbacks?
Also, unfurl the sales and sail the ship!
These 2 panels are just excellent.
I think the Rippers had better get the heck out of Dodge now the Emma has her memories back!
Excellent. Must admit, though, my first thought was “‘Bout damn time.”
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! FINALLY WE CAN SEE WARRICK AGAIN!
Do you remember that in Chapter One Karen’s spirit or whatever that was yelled “Run! Run before they realize what you are!”?
I’ve only just realized that what she meant was a ghost and the reason only Emma could see her is because she was a fellow ghost. And that “they” referred to the ghostbus… I mean Calliope.
Now I’m pretty sure Karen had some hidden agenda, probably a completely separate one from both the Rippers and Calliope.
I’ve been wondering what would happen when Calliope met Our!Emma. If they recognize her as a ghost, all hell could break loose with the good guys fighting each other. Hopefully after escaping Bramble Manor.
nobody said Calliope is the good guys. They’re the other side in an ancient war, not necessarily correct. There’s also always the possibility of a third option.
On a completely different note, I would be entirely amused to read a story where the obviously evil villains are actually quite correct, just not very nice people.
Third option! Maybe Team Emma?
Yes, the strip was 11/2/10! It seemed like an odd comment at the time. It’s amazing that this is so thoroughly planned out that a comment 3 years ago is playing out now!
ohohoohoh Goblin Market, eh???
Valid question, Emma!
Why do I suspect the answer is “I lost count”?
So here is some speculation before bed. If One raised Daniel he could pressure him to write a story that would have the protagonist be the being we know as Our!Emma. Hence the lost stories urging Our!Emma to “change your fate.” Daniel might have been compelled to go to the Goblin market, fall in love with a ‘fairy,’ and enter into a contract involving children. This gave One access to a ‘real’ Namesake from whom he could create a ghost and forge it into a skeleton key.
I can poke holes in this flimsy theory easy enough but we will see. Goodnight fellow Namesake addicts.
I like how the word balloons form a “Z” — for Zorro!
Mom? hmm. This is important. From Emma’s brief recollections, we know that she intensely dislikes her mom. Probably because she brought Emma to “Doctor” One’s Clinic ‘o Pain a few times too many, and then abandoned the family. But those memories may be lies that Daniel rewrote.
Might be best to say your goodbyes to Daniel. When Octo-Ina rats him out, One will have Nose liquify him, and then he will guzzle the vile blue syrup.
It’s time for Emma to slash some Z’s herself.
Not TIME for talking, Emma! Time for asskicking and/or escaping! NOW!
Ohhh my gosh the Goblin Market!!
“The Goblin Market.” Wait, whaaaaa– So Emma’s from a Changeling larp. o.O OK, probably not, but that was my first thought. Great to have your memories back, Emma. =)
You most certainly did the thing. Thank you for doing the thing. <3
Emma’s about to get really mad…
Guess what’s back
Emma’s super traumatic childhood memories are back
Tell a friend
(Or green, emotionally challenged warlock)
Do we know for sure they’re traumatic?
Well, I’m basing my surmise on previous experience with this comic. All those visits to One could not have been fun. Plus, the ‘my whole life was a lie’ is lesson one in Heroine Tragic Background Story class.
I love how the blue around her eyes seems to take on the shape of a butterfly and then literally fly away – nice touch! Also I REEEEEALLY wanna know what’s so significant about the Goblin Market.
It’s the shape of her mask vanishing.
I understood that, thanks though! I just like the way it’s been artistically portrayed.
Ah, sorry about that then, I looked back a few pages and saw it could easily have been forgotten.
The art in this comic is wonderful! Thank you for pointing out a great detail.
Danger Will Robinson, I am flailing my arms wildly!
I was just talking about Goblin Market in my British Literature class! Is Christina Rossetti a Namesake writer?!
He has given her the gift of free agency! At last!
Time for Team Emma!
Out of all the things she’s starting to remember, she also remembers something involving a Goblin Market and the woman she thought was her mom? Oh… I hope we get to hear about THAT one some day. *lol* Is the mom running off after giving birth to Elaine and handing her over to Daniel and Emma because of some contract, one of the reasons Emma seriously HATED her mom at the mention of her, back before Banshee and the other one mindwiped her while ‘fixing’ the damage Nose had done?
All around the mulberry bushThe monkey chased the weasel; The monkey thought ’twas all in good funPop! goes the weasel
(My first thought upon seeing the breaking memory mask in the first panel)

And she finally remembers warrick, thank god.
*laughs at mouse over text*
I’ve caught up, and I have to say that I eagerly anticipate more. Thanks for creating and advertising this brilliant comic!
Instantly, I’m thinking about Christina Rossetti and her poem “The Goblin Market”. Oooh yes. Forbidden fairy food and sisters!
I started this comic 2.5 days ago and IT. IS. AMAZING.
Also, I just wanted to add that I love the Doctor Who reference in this and the last page. It ties together so beautifully with the story too!
(she remembers! I’M DYING WITH GLEE)
