Is Emma trying to deal with survivor’s guilt about Scarecrow? Is that why she has skulls tangled in her hair? That is Emma, right? Not the ghost, or Elaine? Though Elaine had the crown on the postcard, and Emma the circlet. I think it’s Elaine with the sword too, which is also reversed as Emma should have it. Perhaps I’m confused about who is who.
Is the crown of ice? Driving down shards of ice through her face?
The one on top is Elaine, and I’m pretty sure the one at the bottom is Emma. She has undergone certain… developments her little sister has not. Also, that’s a very Emma hoodie.
Sometimes (like every time), I am incredibly jealous that Meg and Isa know everything about everything in regards to Namesake, and we don’t. ;-; I’m tellin’ you, even if I knew the spoilers, I’m addicted to the art as much as I am the story! …. >>; Promise I won’t tell…. <<; *whines*
And im also pretty sure the one with the sword is Elaine because if you look back at the sneak peak she is wearing the same outfit that she is wearing there.
Looks like things are going to get difficult and dangerously dark before they get light again … and a bit more confusing too!
So it’s a Chapter Title page instead of an actual page of the actual story – Dang (almost)!
That crack on the face could be the Ghost who’s taken Emma’s form and has a similar (but Not the same) scar from before . . . then again it could be showing Emma in conflict possibly choosing between something dear to her and something else important (like be with family/friends or being able to go back to Oz and others) . . . and Elaine “slipping through the crack/s” there shows, or even hints, that Little Crewe could be joining in on the story soon, in an unexpected way.
Love the use of colour here, especially the warm orange behind Elaine AND that bit in her eyes. EPIC!!!
Just noticed your statement Isa. This I want to see!
My personal beliefs are that part of being a good/ civilized person is forbearance for the small evils that come our way each day. Be polite even when provoked or insulted.
Therefore, when the wrong is clear and immediate… IT’S CLOBBERIN’ TIME!
OK, the fist thing I noticed were the skulls. Then Elaine’s cracked forehead.
Then the fact that all the skulls have the same kind of crack in their faces…
Elaine, the writer of Emma’s stories – does this “cracking” happen to all writers of namesakes? The opening though which pour all the stories (pour out, or pour in)? Is one of those skulls L Frank Baum’s, and another Lewis Carroll’s?
I’ve followed since the beginning, and I’m not stopping now…
While not at all related to this page, I have had my own personal theory on the ghost for a while now. I was wondering if I could talk to you guys about, and get a ‘no, you’re crazy’ or ‘maybe, you aren’t that crazy’ for my own personal sanity.
Also unrelated, the Poe puppet show was amazing! They did some of the more popular pieces as well as some lesser know ones, including my favorite. All of the sound effects were created onstage by a single crew man, dressed in period clothing, using period instruments and techniques. If you get a chance, I really recommend it, just maybe don’t sit on the front row.
Hmmm I feel like something very old and binding is ending and starting to unravel….. like the stories aren’t going to repeat over and over again but finally start really moving forward thanks to Emma’s stubbornness
Ah, frack. That’s the shirt she was/will be wearing when… well. http://namesakecomic.com/comic/sneak-peek/
Also, ELAINE PUT THAT SWORD DOWN. YOU’RE GOING TO PUT YOUR REALITY OUT.
Well as the good Doctor once said (in the episode “The Mind Robber” -
“When someone writes about something after it’s happened, that is history. But when the writing comes first…that’s fiction! If we had fallen into this trap, we would have BECOME fiction!” (Cue Ironic dialog alert)
I just started reading this comic today, I admit I was rather ;LAL;KEGA;LEKJH when I caught up to the latest page. XD I can’t wait for more!
…and just a question, but why do I have a feeling that Warrick and Emma might become a ‘thing’? Is that wierd? Or am I not alone? GAWELKGJAKL;WJEHGAKJWERH.
This comic is soo amazing!! I was so interested when I found out about it that I read through the entire comic in one night and looked up finally and it was 1:30 am :-/ I’m really sorry I missed the kick starter– but is there any way for me to purchase the 1st 2 books now?
Wow! Two newbies caught up in one day. Has anyone else noticed that Namesake seems to be snagging more newbies lately? Well done, ladies.
I think that the brown, red, and orange go together very well. I especially like the orange reflection in Elaine’s eyes. What is that blue? Emma does not look very comfortable at all.
My guess would be that it’s because of all of the ads for it that are out right now.
It’s what brought me over last week
(but then after I read the archive, I checked a bunch of my bookmarks I’m behind on and saw the ad-bar on three more comic sites)
Newbie fan reporting for duty! Haha. I found this lovely gem through an ad on DeviantArt today, and am proud to say that I read the entire thing! Can’t wait for more. You guys are awesome! Keep up the amazing story and art. I’ll be checking in Tuesday! <3
This artwork is absolutely beautiful.
My thoughts;
-why is Elaine holding the sword?!
-wait, maybe I just have them confused? no, no I do not.
-is that the crown Alice was wearing in the very first cover?
-omg, Emma’s cracking up! O.O
-what’s with the skulls in the very “ghost-like” hair?
- . . . are there eight of them? signifying Dorothies?
-why are Elaine’s pants torn? THISISCLEARLYSIGNIFICANT! :O
-… Elaine has orange bubbles surrounding her and orange highlight’s in her eyes, just like Emma has with blue. :O
So, yeah… keep it up ladies~
I don’t actually find the waits terrible and you seem to have made yourself a home in the “comics I actually keep up to date on”, you’re in my tablet favourites (as well as my computer’s) and everything. You make me really want to get ahold of the Oz stories, the Wonderland stories, (the Neverland stories, the Grimm stories, the…) and you’re the reason that when my uncle turned on the television today and I heard the words “there’s no place like home” I uttered cry of anguish.
Details are that element of artwork that show the artist cares~ <3
I've saved all of the Project Gutenberg links for the books that are in the 'Books of Namesake' page so that I could read them when I get a chance. Ideally I wanted them in book form, but just for the sake of these stories, I think I'd be willing to attempt to read them on my computer
I've been thinking about reading the Oz books for the past several years, ever since an artist I followed on deviantArt posted fanart of.. Jack Pumpkinhead and The Patchwork Girl, or something like that. I also found out that the shoes were supposed to be silver and I was just so intrigued. Such lies MGM has perpetrated into our culture.
Oh! and I’d also like to say; your comment subscription button seems to be broken? It was fine last week I think, but for these past two updates the subscription links I’ve been sent are for a) the wrong page, and b) to broken links at that (they have a different format and I think they’re all called ‘revision’ pages). This page for example subscribed me to ‘The Pledge’ http://www.namesakecomic.com/2012/01/04/517-revision/ and the last update gave me ‘A broken heart flutters’ http://www.namesakecomic.com/2011/11/03/474-revision/, which seems incredibly inconsistant, so it’s not just off by a year or something like that…
If I go back to an older post at some point and subscribe to the comments, I’ll be sure to let you know if it’s buggy there (whether it’s a site issue, or just a ‘new posts’ issue).
Oh, interesting!
Is Emma trying to deal with survivor’s guilt about Scarecrow? Is that why she has skulls tangled in her hair? That is Emma, right? Not the ghost, or Elaine? Is the crown of ice? Driving down shards of ice through her face?
Is she an Ice Queen? That’s a potent tale.
I wanna know more about *EVERYTHING*!
The one on top is Elaine, and I’m pretty sure the one at the bottom is Emma. She has undergone certain… developments her little sister has not. Also, that’s a very Emma hoodie.
The one in the orange is Elaine. The one in the blue shirt is Emma, wearing the same clothing as the 12th cover.
That looks painful, and as if the crack that Elaine is appearing out of is connected to the web of fractures across Emma’s face.
I LOVE THIS ITS . I just started reading
Welcome to the comic!
Thanks!
i wonder if the crown has something to do with the mask nose put on her
And im also pretty sure the one with the sword is Elaine because if you look back at the sneak peak she is wearing the same outfit that she is wearing there.
wow! just…wow

Love the use of colour here, especially the warm orange behind Elaine AND that bit in her eyes. EPIC!!!
Little Crewe is about to turn into a big badass.
Look forward to seeing that . . . . once this page is seen listed in the Archives (sorry to go over this old news again).
It looks like Elaine must have to fight herself her own way to reunite or rescue her sister. Great ilustration!! Everyday I love this comic even more!
Ack! I missed Meg’s birthday? Sorry! Happy Birthday!
Hope Oz is going on soon…
OK, the fist thing I noticed were the skulls. Then Elaine’s cracked forehead.

Oh, good catch!
Except the one with the cracked forehead is Emma, not Elaine
But still, yeah, good catch on noticing the skulls have those same cracks

We’d rather not confirm fan theories at the moment, but rest assured, the Ghost’s purpose will be revealed… pretty soon, actually.
*looks suspicious*
Probably the reveal will lead to another dozen things to speculate about, hmmm?
That looks like a bad splitting headache. Hope she’ll get well again soon.
Hmmm I feel like something very old and binding is ending and starting to unravel….. like the stories aren’t going to repeat over and over again but finally start really moving forward thanks to Emma’s stubbornness

I just started reading this yesterday and I must say I have fallen in love. This is a beautifully executed piece of fiction.
Who says it’s fiction? XD
Well as the good Doctor once said (in the episode “The Mind Robber” -
“When someone writes about something after it’s happened, that is history. But when the writing comes first…that’s fiction! If we had fallen into this trap, we would have BECOME fiction!” (Cue Ironic dialog alert)
Z formation snapping.
I discovered this comic the other day and got instantly hook to it I am hoping this book will never end.
Welcome to the comic!
You guys are such procrastinators as of late >:T
Ouch.
The Warrick and Emma ship has a whole lot of support, so don’t feel lonely. Also, Welcome!
@Yala same here.

We are currently counting what we have left to see if we have any left for the store once the kickstarter stuff is taken care of
k thanks
yeah i was also upset i missed it i wanted a copy of each book to

I have a feeling Emma is going where lots of Namesakes have gone before. That is, madness and deep trouble… It’s the cracks on the skulls.
Sometihng is breaking apart, that’s for sure.
I. LOVE. THIS. COMIC. I can’t wait for more pages!
More pages you shall have, kind reader!
I see orange shading. I’m thinking FIRE. LOTS OF FIRE!
The world will end in Ice or fire, amiright?
oh my goodness. i just devoured all of the other chapters in one sitting. i am so addicted. first time reading
this is awesome.
Thank you!!

Aw, thanks so much!! Welcome aboard!
I think this is my new favourite cover! Although it’s hard to choose one over another.
My favorite is always changing!
curiouser and curiouser.
This artwork is absolutely beautiful.

Glad everyone is all about the details in the drawing, makes me feel happy, haha!
Hearing that Namesake is snug in one’s favorites is always an amazing compliment. And I can only recommend reading the classics. They always rock.

Thanks! I’ll have the tech folks look into them. I updated the plug-in, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

is that a scar on Elaine’s wrist?
No, it’s just her ligaments showing because she’s got her hand in a fist.
