on January 15, 2013 at 12:00 amGood news, everybody! The Kickstarter for book 2, which covers Intermission #1 and chapters 6-10, should be up by the end of the week! We have a couple of minor tweaks to the video to make, want to make sure everything is in tip-top shape, then we’ll be ready to go! We’ll let you know as soon as it’s launched. The Kickstarter will last a month, and if everything goes well, we’ll have books by the end of May/early June! Tell your friends, your family, your pets and the boogeyman hiding under your bed!

Actually, that was Snagglepuss’ signature line. He was a Mountain Lion. Yogi Bear’s signature line was “I’m smarter than the average bear!” (Yes, I watched all of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. I regret *almost* nothing…)
“Diverse Alarums, Exhunt all.”
Actually I was trying to references Shakespeare there, never saw much of those cartoons. xD
Then you want “pursued”, meaning chased, rather than “perused” meaning to read or look over carefully.
I admit I’d run if a bear were perusing me, perhaps then to be pursued by said bear.
Fred’s strength and determination is revealed as he takes charge. His expression in panel 1 is great! Panel 6 is one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. Holy frack indeed!
I stared at panel two for I don’t know how long going WHAT ON EARTH. And did the exact same thing come panel six. I’m assuming the blood vessels (???) expanding in panel two has to do with her entire head (and apparently hand also) expanding in panels four and six. But I don’t know for sure… Whatever it is, it’s definitely horrifying.
I think the fact that it falls a bit outside of the realm of explanation or understanding adds to the horrific aspect, actually. It definitely feels correct though. I think when it’s a ghost that comes from a place between existances, sense and meaning kind of go out the window, and you’re just left with creepy madness.
I think the very last panel is the most epic of all. I ADORE Fred!
And suddenly, after the 2nd to last panel, all I have going through my mind right now is “Down with the bloody big head!”
Panel #1 – Fred’s eyes are red – Ben, haven’t you seen it or heard Elaine yet?
Panel #3 – ‘E-Emma? No, that’s not . . . ”
Panel #5 – GOOD Ben, for not fully cursing/swearing right in front of Elaine. Cue David Shire’s appropriate RetOz music at Elaine’s “RUN!!”
Panel #6 – You know her?!
Better a two-day wait for the next page than a 3-day wait . . . . then again saying THAT might jinx it!

I love the fact that Elaine is the one who is smart enough to actually take the initiative to run, saving Ben, even though Fred was somehow believing that she was the one needing protection from Ben.

Unless Fred thought Ben would snap out of it if he had a goal to achieve or something. Not much need to tell a person to run if they’re already trying to, and it looks like Elaine wasn’t going to leave Ben, so if he left, she would follow.
I just hope Fred can slow that thing down. Something tells me it takes a magic artifact like Emma’s sword to really hurt it.
BTW: Is anyone else voting for Namesake on TopWebComics? It only has 93 votes this month, placing it way down on the list as #327 ! It USED to stay somewhere in the top 20!

I vote every day. Based on comments Isa made months ago ,I think that Meg n Isa aren’t that interested in TWC.
Not that much, but we do greatly appreciate the effort of those who do vote. Because any way someone wants to support a webcomic is always awesome in my book.

It occurs to me now that the original witch of the west(The one killed by the original Dorthy) only had one eye in the original book… Could that be who’s ghost this is?
Now that you mention it, Warrick did find a jar with a heart and an eye in it when he explored the castle of the West… Wonder if they’re related?
The heart was probably from whatever ritual Warick used to save his own life(It gave him a weakness to water like the original witch, and could quite possibly be the heart of the original witch…) The eye, well wouldn’t surprise me if it was from a similar spell the original witch used to grant herself enhanced eyesight…(Ironic way to do it given the probable loss of depth perception you would expect from removing an eye…)
Mythologically, seers are often blind or blinded; and Odin had to pay an eye for wisdom.
In the flashback chapters while Warrick was in the castle he explained that the Witch gave up her heart and her eye to protect someone. Similar in concept to what Warrick did (giving his heart to protect Ozma. And also so he wouldn’t die). And the Witch was actually pictured at one point with an eyepatch over one eye.
And also remember that when we first met the ghost she didn’t have eyes at all. She gained one eye by using the Toto ghost as a replacement eye. So while that’s a good theory, I don’t think that’s what it is.
And now we know, her name is…Ghost!

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but is it possible that the concept of these ghosts are drawn from the Chinese (and somewhat in Japan as well) concept of ‘hungry ghosts’? That would explain their somewhat driving need to feed off the living.
