Another case of primary protaganist syndrome.
“I don’t know what’s going on here but my ethics require heroic action.” Or maybe Emma doesn’t fully grasp what has happened to her.
Well, it’s the right thing to do. It’s what the real Dorothy would have done — confronted the baddie with their baddie-ness. And she’d get away with it SOMEHOW (and generally not by running; Dorothy did run SOMETIMES, but for the most part she was stubborn as a Kansas mule and didn’t take sh*t from NOBODY, while being sweet and polite at the same time).
I do wish that these panels were in color. The Witch’s emergence panel definitely deserves color for the zappy.
The thing is that Dorothy didn’t NEED a house. When something that looked like a huge monster attacked, she’d smack it on the nose. When captured by pitiless vegetable creatures, she lectured them and pitied them their lack of feelings.
And more than half the time, her undaunted direct approach would make the other person back down.
Also, this version of the Witch is definitely heading towards the Evil Is Sexy trope, She has the Angry Beauty going really well in the “going to be a purse” frame.
Her obsession with accessorizing, however, is making me think of an Evil Heiress with Power. Purple Paris Hilton?
Question: Does anyone know why *some* of my comments end up with “your comment is awaiting moderation” and others seem to post right through? It doesn’t make sense to me that it’s going to just moderate random comments. Is there some way it chooses which comments need to be moderated?
The last time I checked, all the comments were automatically approved, but I’ll double-check it. It may just be random quirky WordPress/ComicPress thing.
Edit: OK, it had to do with the URL in your previous comment. Any comments with URLs are automatically flagged just to make sure it’s not spam. TV Tropes, however, is merely crack. ^_~ (And, Namesake now has a tropes page!)
She WANTED a purse, now she has one! With stuff inside it, even!
Looks like Emma kept her phone out, though I don’t know what good it’ll do her. If she had a can of mace that would be good. Or, if this Witch follows the same rules as the other, a bottle of water.
Situations in Oz are always interesting because they were childrens’ books and looking at them from an adult perspective you wonder how they might be if they were, well, more real. I suspect this version of Oz follows that logic, because otherwise Witchy-poo is in for worse surprises than being hit by a purse. OTOH if it IS following that logic, Emma had best watch her step; just having the balls that Dorothy had won’t be enough.
Another interesting question (to which I don’t expect an answer now) is whether the Namesake is limited to the universes in which she/he becomes the Expy or substitute for the original hero; that is, Alice went into Wonderland and is, well, ALICE, Jack may be the several related Jacks in folklore (Jack the Giant Killer, etc…. hmm… Jack of All Trades? … as long as he’s not Red Jack), so is Emma perhaps limited to Oz now that she’s been put in the Dorothy role?
Oh, another thought. I wonder if becoming a Namesake changes you, either from the point of view of OTHER people, or within yourself. For instance, I could imagine that someone dropping in as Dorothy might APPEAR as Dorothy in Oz, even though she isn’t exactly the same person. Sort of like having different actors in the role of James Bond. (Although I rather suspect Bond of being a Timelord).
Yet another thought… the Nameless. I wonder if those who are doing this Opposite Number take on the roles of the villains? Which would make Witchy there one of the Nameless.
Most of these questions will be answered by the comic itself in time. However, being a namesake implies a lot of things and does change people. In a lot of different ways.
This witch is not nameless though, she’s called Selva. So far the only “nameless” is “Vanessa”
Okay so probably not the smartest idea but at least she’s trying to help right?
I can’t wait to see the reaction on this.
And the look on her face says exactly that.

“Squiiiiiiiish”
Agha: “…. RUN!”
Hahaha…
Everything in Emma’s expression seems to say, “That may not have been the best idea.”
Oh dear. She should probably run now.

Yup. Dorothy would have gone all whup-ass on her.
It helps when your can of whoop-ass is shaped like a falling house.

TvTropes is not crack. Crack is MUCH less addictive.
Yes, I saw. I have my own Tropes page as well!
PURSE’D!
HAHAHA YES!
LMAO!!! I love her!!! Purse’d indeed! XD
BWAHAHAHA… Thwap indeed. >:D
Best sound effect evar.
Go secret weapon that looks like a purse! ;D

Rules are pretty weird in this version of Oz. You’ll see.
But we’re not seeing FAST ENOUGH!
Curse your need to expend time and effort outside of producing these comics just because you want to actually have a life!
LOL! Now that’s true heroism there! XD

So… her wanting to have her own kingdom is her just being “Selvish”?
…I love Emma’s expression in the last panel. XD
I do too! Emma has the best expressions.
Emma’s expression in the last panel: |8C
Exactly!
SCHOOLED
I love this comic. =3
I bet she wishes she had a shot gun. Or a house to drop on her.
