I didn’t think it was possible, but you managed to make it look creepier in that one panel than in saturday’s page, and saturday’s page was pretty creepy.
The fact that Adora sensed something is interesting, I can understand that Ozma would since she’s the ruler of Oz, but it’s a bit odd that Adora would.
what makes this all the more creepy is the fact that the voice bubble is coming from inside the monstrosity and not appearing to float in the air like everybody else.
on a side note; it looks like Ozma is watching a giant plasma screen TV…or is it some sort of magic mirror?
That will be the Magic Picture, an Ozian magical artifact that is essentially a superduper instant surveillance camera that can look anywhere and display anything. (Although there are evidently ways to block or fiddle with the signal so that it gives unhelpful results — see especially Lost Princess of Oz in this regard.
There was no fiddling or blocking the signal in Lost Princess; they just didn’t know what they were looking at. If they’d had someone from late-20th century there the mystery would’ve been solved in three seconds flat.
Well I must say I’m surprised to find this new page in the “Special” section instead of the regular current Chapter.
It’s a good and organized look, but I like the newest pages being on top as before instead of the bottom.
When did the kids run before? Just wondering about the “Running again” title.
“It’s Back”? WHAT’S Back?! I’ll just have to wait till Saturday, 2 days, to find out . . . !
Hmm, I wonder how Ozma could observe the monster on her magic TV set/mirror/whatnot roughly 3 seconds after it escaped the wardrobe… was she spying on the kids, perhaps?
Creepier and creepier… I know those two experienced different things than kids in our world, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if they got some kind of trauma from that…
By the way, if you are old enough to remember the Muppet Show or the original Muppet movies, or you have kids, or you are a kid at heart, or like me all of the above. Go see The Muppets.
PS yes I realize I misspelled Renge in my above post, where is the edit button so i dont look silly?
it could also mean that the sound us just guttural or coming from the throat meaning it’s not actually a voice…but that doesn’t make it any less creepy <:(
Ok, even though this is creepy as sin, I’ve gotta say, Adora looks beautiful in the second-to-last panel. Even though she’s gonna be dead in like, three pages.
Also, this page helps explain the anatomy of the monster better. In the last page quite a few people thought that big hole on it’s head was it’s eye (at least that’s what i thought) and that the smoke (or whatever that is) was coming from it’s nose. but this page helps clear that up a lot. the smoke is quite obviously coming from it’s eyes, and if you go back a page you can tell by looking closely that the view of the monster’s face is actually a profile, and that the hole that people thought was an eye is just a massive hole in it’s head.
“Hey, kids! Have a look at this. Two ladies have made a comic strip based on Oz. Let’s read it together. I enjoyed the stories when I was a kid.” — some dad shortly before dad and kids are gibbering wrecks
Namesake: Not your father’s Oz story
“Namesake” and “Necronomicon” both start with an N. Coincidence? No.
There are bones inside melty oozy exterior coating ewwwww! Well, fangs, anyway, if not bones. This thing is reminding me of the ghost more and more, in some ways. Waugh! Waugh!
“It,” ladies and gentlemen, “it.” Not a “her,” despite the supposed female-esque appearance of the tree-like creepazoid alien thing from the closet. I’m guessing it’s so terrible that Ozma and Renge don’t regard it as human/Ozian anymore. And that they know of it implies a previous relationship with it–perhaps they’re the ones that sealed it?
If it is meant to be tree-like, I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the mind-sucking poppies, different than the Wicked Witch’s sleeping ones?
Though, the fact that it’s eyeless makes me think there’s more of a connection to our dear ol’ ghostie instead.
I wonder if Adora asked Ozma ahead of time to watch over her kids while they were inside the castle, just to try to head off potential scenarios like this, but grieving Ozma was distracted by her own continuing malaise and didn’t notice what was up until too late.
WAY TO RAMP UP THE CREEPY, YOU GUYS!!!!!

Well, it is her kids that are in trouble.
That’s true, but I just didn’t know she was capable of sensing that sort of thing
She’s sensing the big magical monster, not the kids
EEEEEEK!!
Wow, Ozma, those are some serious crazy eyes you’ve got going there.
what makes this all the more creepy is the fact that the voice bubble is coming from inside the monstrosity and not appearing to float in the air like everybody else.

The Magic Picture, wet dream of voyeurs and security people everywhere.

Mwahahah.
Hmm, I wonder how Ozma could observe the monster on her magic TV set/mirror/whatnot roughly 3 seconds after it escaped the wardrobe… was she spying on the kids, perhaps?
She asked it to show her what Warrick was doing. The Magic Picture is the Eye of God, in essence.
Creepier and creepier… I know those two experienced different things than kids in our world, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if they got some kind of trauma from that…
Wait…Range is a monster?
No, Range is standing beside Ozma.
and it’s Renge…
By the way, if you are old enough to remember the Muppet Show or the original Muppet movies, or you have kids, or you are a kid at heart, or like me all of the above. Go see The Muppets.

The creepiest thing (for me) is that : THERE IS SOMEONE IN THIS THING!!
it could also mean that the sound us just guttural or coming from the throat meaning it’s not actually a voice…but that doesn’t make it any less creepy <:(
Warrick the Brave in panel 3.
Yep.
Ok, even though this is creepy as sin, I’ve gotta say, Adora looks beautiful in the second-to-last panel. Even though she’s gonna be dead in like, three pages.
Adora always looks pretty. She is seriously fun to draw for that reason.

…I dunno, the original books had some creepy, creepy stuff too. Like head removal. And death by egg.
A story in text allows some buffer to the mind/spirit. Ina & Meg are mainlining this stuff into our eyes.
@Gene W; Oh hell yeah. Hey kids (6 &8) this will be fun! Miyazaki has a new anime out called Spirited Away. Let’s go see it.
Rampant speculation! That is no mere monster. That is the remnants of their mother’s broken heart.
Also, I’m typing this on my phone during an intermission of Wicked.
Appropriate!
Is it me, or is Warrick’s nose getting pointier and pointier?
Huh…. insert art evolution excuse here?
Gah! What! How did you manage to make it even CREEPIER?
There are bones inside melty oozy exterior coating ewwwww! Well, fangs, anyway, if not bones. This thing is reminding me of the ghost more and more, in some ways. Waugh! Waugh!
