Why, Selva’s all grown up now. Would you like to see her? Just let me empty out all the stuff I’ve been carrying around inside of her. She’s been SO helpful to have around. Wouldn’t you agree, Hercilia?
[sound of a lot of dominoes falling over all at once]
Whoa. I’m impressed; that’s an extraordinarily elegant working-out of details. Ozma’s magical approach is more Baum-like than I’d anticipated (and entirely in character), and the unfolding of generations is both ingeniously detailed and wonderfully concise. I think I feel a chapter climax coming on within the next few pages….
Definitely adorable. We know where Selva is right now, but not what happened to Warrick. Did he catch Anlise before her last scenes with Renge? Or afterwards? Or did he miss her, and went looking for the Dorothy while waiting?
Wow! I stop reading for a month, (sorry was very busy helping wife have a baby) come back and wow. In the last two pages you ladies manage to a) give the origins of Warrick, b) answer what happened to the Tin Man c) origins of Selva d) create a VERY awkward situation for poor Emma. Speaking of Emma, it occurs to me that Caliope (love the fact that I was completly wrong! A group instead of a person!) doesn’t know what Emma’s BIRTH NAME is. People change their names or go by nicknames all the time. Doesn’t mean Emma was born Emma. And I think for the purpose of Namesake, the birth name counts.
Congrats for the baby! I hope you chose a nice name for him or her, names are quite important!
I can confirm this since it’s not really a spoiler, but Emma is really 100% Emma’s actual name. No nicknames, middlenames or anything. The mystery lies elsewhere!
Baby’s name is Summer Snow (yes that’s her first name.) Thanks for the confirm on Emma’s name. Second thought then is: Stories have to start somewhere. Either that or the Universe has decided that Emma is a “fill in” Someone who can play the role of different namesakes when the Name isn’t avalible or when the story has deviated a lot. Just some thoughts.
i may have something. i was reading all these iiinteresting comments and a thought just popped into head from the movie; “Auntie Em! Auntie Em!” it’s a thought anyway.
And here I thought I was evil for naming one of my characters Dawn Twilight. =^-^=
Isa, Megan, that last panel was just absolutely adorable.
And you’re really tempting me to read the Wizard of Oz series (I’ve not touched it in decades). Maybe after I finish rereading (for the 30th or so time (seriously) the Lord of the Rings series.
I just wish I had enough hours in the day to do everything I want. ^^;;
Found this just a few days ago. The third or fourth time some comment sent me back to recheck the comic it occurred to me that young Selva reminds me of Arumi from Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. (Which, as I think of it, is weird in some rather similar ways to Namesake. And that is definitely a complement.)
Also, Arumi, Emma, Dorothy (in the books, no so much in the movie), Agha, Jinjur… lots of strong, self-confident female characters. This is very good.
One question on this older page… Chadrick is wearing a green oval brooch in the flashback. He doesn’t seem to have it in the present. Could he have given it to Adora? Is Warrick actually wearing his *father’s* brooch? (Of course, one oval brooch will look a lot like another.)
Soon as I saw her, I knew she was gonna be Warrick and Selva’s mum! XD Also little Selva and little Warrick are adorable! XD
They really are!

*laughs* not awkward at all.
Is that Chiseri Nick’s chasing with his axe? Is that what happened to Warrick’s father? And clearly Selva inherited her father’s corruption…
I’m glad Adora didn’t die of the broken heart!
Hmm. It does kind of look like Chiseri there, doesn’t it?

We had a lot of fun writing out these backstories
Oz is just so full of things to play with.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Little Warrick and Selva are adorable!
Aren’t they just?
Definitely adorable. We know where Selva is right now, but not what happened to Warrick. Did he catch Anlise before her last scenes with Renge? Or afterwards? Or did he miss her, and went looking for the Dorothy while waiting?
Warrick’s going to show up pretty soon. No worries! You’ll see what he’s up to.
Oh. Dear.
“Um… Selva’s… into shoes right now.”
Sorry, I meant “Accessories”.
There should be a way to edit/delete replies, like on LJ. Darn.
Indeed. There is for me anyways
Mwahah!
This would be an awkward yet fabulous moment for Selva to decide to speak up. Holy crap. Twins AND the woodcutter’s grandson.
Talk about fancy lineage!
Panel 6 for the win! Angry Daddy with an axe.
Wait, who’s the tall lady? I see Mom, Dad, Andora, fleeing blob.
The previous Witch of the West, perhaps, who’d been training her? Hair’s not dark enough for Ozma…
Or maybe a Dorothy.
It’s the wrong daddy to displease…
Hmmm, I think the scarecrow in in for a surprise when he finds out Selva is now a purse and being carried by Emma.
Also, is Warrick and Selva’s father… Chisory? The small figure flying away from The Tinman’s Axe looks VERY familiar…
Mystery, mystery…

Oh, that’s a cute name!
These are some interesting theories. Too bad I can’t confirm or deny any of them at the moment *laughs*

You know, we thought about Dawn. But decided against it. For unfortunatly the same reason we decided against Aurora or Snow.
:O!
SO THAT’S WHO SELVA AND WARRICK ARE.
INDEED.
Awesome then.
was Adora born five? Was she never an infant?
Nope. Born as a child.
Warrick and Selva look so happy. I wonder what happened?
Lots and lots of things. Warrick will tell you himself in the next few pages.
Now, this is very minor, but why ever would there be RED POPPIES behind Adora?
Poppies are actually a pretty common flower in Oz. Ozma decorates her hair with them.
Darn, thought I had something there.
So much backstory, brain reeling 0_0
Aww they were so cute as children! ^^
OH, WHAT AN ADORABLE THING!! *o* I love them! What a cute thing! <3
Somehow, I’ve read this comic at least ten times and only noticed the bottom panel this time around. I’m worried now.
OMG!! How adorable those siblings are >w:]
Also I’m a new fan *O*
