The Authors

Megan Lavey-Heaton

“Meg” she/her/they

Megan Lavey-Heaton is a journalist and writer with a side passion for travel and photography, currently catering to the whims of her cats in central Pennsylvania.

She has worked with Isa on various comic projects since 2009. In addition to Namesake, she edits Crow Time and co-edits the Valor anthology series. Her writing is strongly influenced by manga creators such as Rumiko Takashashi and author J.D. Robb as well as the sci-fi TV writing of J. Michael Straczynski. She has several hundred plush crows living in her basement.

Meg has been in the newspaper industry for more than 20 years and works for PennLive.com/The Patriot-News as a social media manager, podcast producer and data journalist.

In her free time, when she is not walking around with a camera, she enjoys reading, cross stitch and embroidery, knitting, hiking, gaming, not cleaning off the dining room table, trying to see around the tortie when she blocks the monitor, and letting her one brain-celled orange boy bully her into bed at a reasonable hour.

Isabelle Melançon

“Isa” - she/her/they

Isabelle Melançon is a French-Canadian artist born in 1985. They grew up in a family of book and comic-lovers, and have been drawing ever since they could hold a pencil. They used to want to be a dragon-rider, then envisioned a career change as a fantasy writer at the age of 10.

Isabelle’s drawing style is heavily influenced by American and Japanese animation, as well as older Victorian and French illustration work, creating a fluid yet detailed mix. All of their comic pages are inked traditionally.

They are madly in love with fairy tales and literature and enjoy playing with the classics in her comic and written works. They currently live in Montréal, work as a freelance administrator and editor, and are also the author of the webcomic Crow Time, which is edited by Meg.
