Fanart Policy

We sincerely hope that you find Namesake engaging enough to eventually create fanworks for it. We met through fandom and still actively participate in the creation of fanart and fanfic and want to encourage others to do the same. However, in order to protect our copyright, we do have to lay down the following ground rules which are based off the Creative Commons umbrella.

Most likely we are not going to read your fanfic. Fanart is a little bit different, but fanfic is especially where some of the sticky stuff comes in. While Namesake was plotted in its entirety prior to the story being released, we wouldn’t be surprised if in the production of fanfic that someone comes pretty close to where we’re headed. We don’t want you to feel like your work has been ripped off without credit, and we don’t want to be put into the very messy situation of having to defend our copyright and ruin the playground for everyone.

You must post a disclaimer saying that your work is licensed under the Creative Commons as a attribution-non-commercial work. In doing so, you waive any rights to that work and can not sue Isabelle or Megan for compensation if something similar appears in Namesake. For example:

DISCLAIMER: “Namesake” is the copyright of Isabelle Melançon and Megan Lavey. This story/art is licensed under the Creative Commons as a attribution, non-commerical work. No profit is being made off this piece.
